ESPN's been doing a poll for each teams three most memorable plays, not the best plays but the most memorable.

They decided ours was Marino fake spike/TD to beat the Jets.


I presume its a matter of how old you are. For me its not even inthe top 3.

When I think back on my time as a dolphin fan I come up with:



1- The hook and lateral vs San Diego in the 1981 playoffs. If you saw it, its clearly the top choice.

2- Garo batting the muffed FG into a Redskins TD in Super Bowl VII

3- Theisman batting away the TD/INT by Kim Bokamper in Super Bowl XVII (or Riggins running over Don McNeal to end that game)

We need to start the season already.

I say the fake spike beats the Theismann thing.....partly because I want to anything and everything about Theismann to be "forgettable" rather than memorable. He keeps haunting us all between his broadcasting (which isn't so often anymore? Let's home) and his prostate commercials.

Garo's play I gotta admit was memorable, even though it made my heart stop beating as a young kid watching SB VII, thinking that he was giving away the game.

Fake spike > Theismann / Riggins in my book.

Plays I always remember....

SD hook and lateral definitely...too bad we lost that game.

Dan Marino getting sacked by Greg Lloyd and trying to yell at him while Lloyd was on top of him. When Marino was asked what he said...Marino replied, I couldn't say anything. The wind was knocked out of me.

The deflected pass caught vs the 85 Bears.

Jay Fiedler last minute TD for the win vs Oakland. Him diving into the end zone, fist raised in celebration.

Ronnie Brown bulldozing a defender on a strong TD run. (happened several times).

Larry Csonka getting flagged for unnecessary roughness after a violent stiff arm.

Snow plow play in NE. (still pisses me off)

Jason Taylor vs Tony Boselli. trash talking etc

We for got about Leon Lett...

That HAS to be in the top 3.

Fake spike is the most overrated play ever. Watch it. It's boring And the fake spike didn't even freeze the jets all that much. Plus we would probably have scored anyway we were on the five. I can think if way better plays. The one handed catch against jets by duper to win in 85. The irv fryer 4th down bomb vs pAts. Both ate better than fake spike

You're right...that has to be up there. I also never knew he ran back another TD at the end of the year; my first year being cognizant of football was 1971.
Kickoff return to begin and end season...not bad. Although my dad says he fumbled too many times in between

ANY play that beats the Jets is not boring nor overrated. Beating the Jets is of the utmost importance.

Good save remembering the first time our team ever touched the football in its history. Some may have regarded it as a fluke but we still turned out to be the only team in history to go through a perfect season.

Also, honorable mention to that defender who slapped that ball out of the Patriot receiver's hand in the SuperBowl that prevented THEM from joining the perfect season club of one.

That Joe Theisman strip was also huge. It cost us a SuperBowl. I was watching it at the Stadium, the Rose Bowl.

Deflected pass vs the 85 Bears for me, I live in the Chi town area and that win shut up ALOT of my friends.

Also, it wasn't one play, but AJ Duhe's performance in the "Mud Bowl" against the Jets has a special place in my memory bank.

Earl Campbell's 80 yard run Monday night 1978. My 2 favorite Dolphins on the 72-73 defense were Den Herder and Curtis Johnson. My last memory of one of my favorite Dolphins (johnson) is him running desperately behind Campbell. Campbell is just burning him putting more and more space between them. Talking about crushing a kid's hero.

1977 - Cardinals Thanksgiving Day Massacre 55-14. Bokamper, Baumhower & Co totaly beat the hell out of Dan Dierdorff & Conrad Dobler.

1973 AFC Championship Mia 27 Oak 10. Somehow I liked the 73 season much better than the 72. We played DAL Pitt Oak & Cle in the regular season. Beat a good Cincy team in the playoffs. Crushed Oak in the AFC champ. That was the what could have been game. We took on all comers and beat them that year. I thought we would win at least 2 more super bowls but then the heartbreaker, we lose Kiick, Warfield and Zonk!

I agree this play is overrated but still good as JC says, because we beat the Jets.

I think Cameron Wake's safety for the win in OT is more exciting.

The best part of that game for me is that my best friend is a Cowboys fan. He would always call me when the Dolphins lost to rub salt in the wound (I did the same to him when the Cowboys lost).

Thinking the Cowboys had won, he called me. I was not going to answer but as soon as Lett made the idiotic play, I answered the phone laughing my ass off! He hung up on me. Priceless timing!

I'll never forget exactly where I was when it happened (notice I didn't say "when I saw it" ).

I was 13 or so. Watching the game with my mom, my dad was working. It was so rare to get a dolphin game on tv in NY back then that wasn't against the jets.

I was sick to my stomach on the verge of tears as I watched SD roll to a 24—0 lead in the first quarter. Then Strock came off the bench and put up 10 quick points. There was hope.

SD missed a long fg... Time for one last drive before the half. 3 plays to the SD 40 with 6 seconds left. I'm begging for a long fg attempt. Shula sends the offense out for one play.

I remember expecting a hail mary and when I saw where the pass was thrown I "knew" Harris would get tackled and there would be no time for another play. So before he even caught it I had burried my face in a couch pillow to scream only to hear my mom screaming "oh my god! That's incredible! What a play!"

I thought she was messing with me so by the time I looked up Tony Nathan was already celebrating in the end zone. I won't bore you with the emotional Rollercoaster ride that was the 2nd half of that amazing game. You probably remember it all to well.

As painful as the end result turned out to be, that was the greatest game and the single greatest play call (and execution) I've (n)ever seen... Even if I had to wait until the halftime recap to actually see it.


For me there are a handful of games and plays that leap to mind when I think about this team:

That playoff loss to SD.

Riggins running over Don McNeal on 4th and 1 to steal a super bowl.

Losing to the 49ers in the Super Bowl.

Yepremian's I'll fated pass attempt.

Leon Let.

The snow plow game.

Giving that awesome 85 bears team it's only loss on national TV.

Jay Fiedler channeling his inner Dan Marino for one amazing thanksgiving.

Lamar Smith running all over a young Peyton mannings Colts.

Heck, the fake spike isn't the even the first jets game I think about. I Remember that wild OT shootout between O'Brien and Marino in 86 and aj duhe's 3 int in the playoffs much more vividly.

For the younger guys,, and me, the "Wildcat" game was a plethora of memorable plays. Not just Ronnie slicing through the NE defense again and again BUT, Bellicheat's inability to stop it. And, finally, when the barrage seemed to have slowed down,, Ronnie lobs a left hander into the endzone for another TD.
The stadium sounded like a funeral parlor.
It was a good day to be a Dolphin fan.

Jay Fiedler's record over first four years with Miami (2000-2003) was 35-17. 35 wins in 4 years is not too shabby considering he missed 6-7 games over that stretch.

The bad part was that he only had one playoff win.

He never put up good numbers but he really had nothing more than average receivers. He definitely never had anything resembling a true #1 WR.

We had decent to great running games and great defense.

Just goes to show how important those things are! Give Tannehill & co. those average to above average offensive lines and running games and we are winning multiple playoff games.

For me it was

1. Marino to Nat Moore and his Helicopter catch vs. the Jest.
2. the Greg Cameroon catch that helped us avoid the winless season
3. Leon Lett on Thanksgiving

I'm just stating what you said, which I admit was rather funny.

Funny stuff, as Feidler was a bad QB.

But wait! I get it, all QB's are great IF they have all the best WR, RB's and OL's ever!

fiedler had ricky Williams running the ball. he wasn't asked to do much and when he was he didn't do much.

Since i do not go that far the most memorable play for me is.....when terrell buckley intercepted jim kelley when the bills were about to score and win the game ( they were about 10 yards from the endzone )

Buckley went off to score a TD and we won the game. At buffalo

I remember jimmy johnson running behind buckley with all his hair messed up.

Remember Jimmies hair was always neat and perfect...LOL.
