I really thought when Zack Martin and Mosley went, with 2 better then average QB's on the board we would get flooded with Trade options.

I'm OK with James . It fills a desperate need. but I really thought he would have been available in the 2nd round. Possibly the third. If he turns out to be a starter I'm OK with it , but if he is another future project this is not a great start for Dennis Hickey IMO. I really thought Zack Martin was falling to us. I'm bummed . I hope he makes up for it with at least 2-3 starters in rounds 2-7.

I'm going to be the first to say a shit draft.

They definitely should have been able to trade down at least a few spots. This guy is a projected first year starter and though the pick is very conservative at least we didn't do as poorly as the Jest and Patsies.

Salguero wrote a good piece yesterday about LTs getting drafted and being switched to RT in the pros and how they struggle mightily.

We reached but took a guy that plays the position. He was the best RT in the draft and should be able to step in from day one and start.

i'd rather reach for james than take that fat LT from bama hoping he can play RT.

They Traded at the next pick #20 overall. Hickey must have been asking Too much. James would have been available he should have taken whatever. Lots of great talent in rounds 2-3, I actually wouldn't mind dumping 6-7 to move up and grab another 3rd. I really Hope James pans out to be a solid starter.

Life is a gamble. You should appreciate that more then anyone Sam! Sometimes you need to take a chance in life. When Your a first time GM looking to make a splash you need to take a shot. The chances were better then 50/50 that James would be there if he took a trade down and grabbed an extra 3rd rounder. We could have done something great with that Extra player. Hickey played it safe. That's not how you win championships.

Some trade options, but not flooded.

I don't have a clue about James, except what I hear/read. Miami chose him, I hope he is an All Pro for his entire tenure with the Fins.

As far as trading back and still getting James, we shall see in today's draft if that would have been the case. The draft is running short on offensive linemen, especially tackles, which, from what I understand, he was the last one left, except for Kwandijio(sp), but he is coming off of a knee injury, so he would have been a risk for a first round choice.

Yeah, I thought for sure the way the draft was going that Martin was going to fall to us, but then along came the Cowboys. Sigh.

Right? I would have bet the farm that Jerry was going to grab Johnny Manzeil. Completely had me on that one JJ! Good one , you got me!With Tony Homo and the recent surgery I thought for sure they would grab a QB. Manzeil was made for the Cowgirls. Born and bred....That bummed me out when they grabbed Martin. Oh well. I'm behind you James. I hope you are the next Richmond Webb or Keith Simms.

Yes I quoted myself. Seems Mr Hickey read my thread and took my advice. Rounds 2-3 were much better . We all hope he hit on each of them, but at least he either went for a homerun, or went down swinging. No more "walks " to first base. He has my respect back.

LOL.. YES. I did not like that safe route he took on James. He should have traded got an extra pick and James would have been there, or Milner later on . Safe has gotten has SQUAT in the last 40 yrs. Especially the last 10.

Round Two he stepped up and took some swings on the ball. Lets go down swinging is all I say.

The good news is that the one major thing this team needed has been addressed. The offensive line. Fix that alone and we are a playoff contender.

This assuming James wins a starting spot. He is a decent player IMO but will struggle against the better pass rushers. He will also have more help than Clabo had last year with the addition of Knowshon Moreno and a better overall line. He will face....

This fixing of the line should help disguise the fact that just about every other addition to the team was pretty underwhelming.

Thomas sucks and if he started at RG we are in trouble. I hope one of the couple tackles taken will be our starting RG.
