I understand that the Cowboys are "America's Team" (self-proclaimed), but can anyone tell me why the networks continue to talk about them almost everyday?
They've won one playoff game over a span of how many years? They have finished a mediocre 8-8 for three straight seasons. They have had virtually no impact in the NFL for many, many years.
So why do I have to hear about them almost every damn day?
The Cowboys are very popular across the whole central/south of the USA extending from just west of Atlanta to up as far north as the Carolinas and as far East as New Mexico. THey also get large numbers of philly/NY/ Washington viewer when playoff contention comes into play.
Popular dosen't mean good...just look at any pop star over the past thirty-five + years you care to mention. Or almost any prime time TV show over the last decade +.

Well, Cap, look at it like this. Consider we Dolphin fans on this chatboard as a comparison and that although our team has really sucked for a while but we are still here loyal and enthusiastic fans.
Now, translate that to people across the nation that have been Cowboy fans, not only in Texas but probably in surrounding states like Oklahoma (although when I grew up there, it was heresy to like anything from Texas) and even in other parts of the nation.
Like us on the chatboard, the performance of the team is not a deal breaker.

It's not the fans of the Cowboys that I am talking about; the fans had damn well better support their team thru thick-and-thin.
I was referring to programs like ESPN and NFL Network. The Cowboys have been irrelevant for years and years, yet every day on these shows, there is at least one segment talking about the 'boys.
These programs really just focus on the teams that made the Super Bowl the year before, and the Cowboys. That's what I am talking about.
Lets be adults. There is no easter bunny. Santa is a joke. And TV shows are about exploiting the audience to sell commercials.
Put another way -- ESPN or whoever would debate chess openings in the nude if it sold. That's ALL that matters. So put your big boy pants on and deal with it.
I remember all of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleader poster hub bub in the late 70's . I never bought into it. It is kind of unfair the advantage some teams have over others TV coverage wise.
