If we signed the guy with significant protection in case he is so horrible we can cut him before the season then why sign him at all? The plan should be that he at least makes the team. Would rather have kept Patterson in that case.

A GM MUST take risks from time-to-time on FA's and draft picks. If you avoid risks completely, you end up just mediocre. The key is to mitigate the risk as much as possible. Hopefully Hickey has done that with Finnegan's contract. If he turns out to be a gem like Grimes, then we'll have hit the jackpot!

He was not worth the contract, but...

If he plays up to his pro bowl years (ala Grimes) then he was a steal.

However, I would not have taken that chance with that kind of pay day. Way too much for a guy who was injured and played poorly. Not a good combination for $5.5M.

not if I was only limited to 4 or 5 stocks total and was required to keep all 4 or 5 to field a CB corp
