The guy was hurt and it was a question mark if he could still play. Not only did he prove he can, he surpassed everyones hopes. Guy single handedly shut down the back field. Guy is just a freak of an athlete. He must be a killer 1 on one Basket ball player too.
Heres my question.......what do you think he's going to ask for in the off season? I think we paid him $4 million this past season? We would be lucky to get him for $7-8 a season? 4 yrs?
Sean Smith got a 3 yr/16.5 mil deal last year. (5.5m per year)
Grimes got 5.5 mil last year.
This is a guy who will be 31 in July...so I think he ony gets a 3 year deal.
It will depend on the market. Last year there were not many top tier FA CB's. The ones that were on the market had issues either on or off the field. Nobody was getting big, long term deals.
Here are the top salaries (average per year)
Darrell Revis 16m
Champ Bailey 10.6
Brandon Carr 10m
C. Finnegan 10m
Leon Hall 9.75
Jon Joseph 9.75
Ladarius Webb 8.3m
Tramon Williams 8.25m
Brandon Flowers 8.2m
I think Grimes was second to only Revis in 2013 as far as performance.
There are many top FA CB's this year so it may dilute the market a bit. Hopefully some idiot doesn't overpay and set a precedent like Jerry Jones for Carr.
Carlos Rogers, Coutland Finnegan, Aquib Talib, Vontae Davis, Captain Munnerlin, Charles Tillman, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Sm Shields...all FA's
I would say it will be in the 9/27 range.
I believe the franchise tag will be around 11.3 mil. Thanks to the Bucs.
Talib in Miami...after the Incognito crap. It'll never happen. He's a thug/moron. I would rather spend a few mil more for Grimes. I'm very generous with other people's money.
If I was the GM I would tell Dimitri Patterson he has to restructure or get released. He did not earn his money and has been getting paid for over a season (end of 2012 and 2013 seasons). We got about 4 games out of him last year.
I give him a 2 year, 7 mil deal or cut him. His cap number this year would be 2.5 mil.
Mike Wallace got paid over 12 mil last year. I would re-work his deal to lower his cap number of 17.2 mil to around 9 mil. He is due 15 mil on his guaranteed money so I restructure so he can be released with minimal damage after 2015 if need be.
Those two deals would add around 11 mil to our cap space putting us around 39 mil.
Brent Grimes: 3 yr/26m, 7 mil cap
My first move after signing Grimes is to go get....
Eugene Monroe, LT: 4 yr/35 mil, 9 mil cap
Geoff Schwartz, LG: 3 yr/9m, 2 mil cap
Now I sign...
Chris Clemons: 2 year/6.5 mil, 3 mil cap
Paul Soliai: 2 year/11 mil, 4.5 mil cap
Tyson Clabo: 1 year/3.5 mil
That's 29 mil with 10 mil remaining to fill out the roster and sign rookies.

I think this is a bit off, didn't Wallace just win some "good guy" award or something? He's really not the diva-recieva he's often portrayed as.
it's given by the media for guys who are accessable and give good interviews. not really an award for being a "good guy" in other ways (which wallace still may be, I have no idea)

Just goes to show perception is greater than reality. Stems from the one incident where Wallace showed his displeasure at not being involved enough in the game plan. Haven't heard one negative thing since then.

IMO, Getting a good guy award from the media is far different from being a guy that is cool with taking a pay cut.... Wouldn't you guys agree?

Can't figure out that question, Crowder. But Cap, let me defend Wallace. If he's a "me" guy, it is that he thinks he has great skills that can help this team.
And I agree with him that he is.
But there's ANOTHER KIND OF ME guy. That is like Brandon Marshall. A guy who went to the Pro Bowl and THERE PUBLICLY complained that he didn't have a good enough quarterback to throw the ball to him. Even if it were true, he was a BM, Bowel Movement for saying so publicly.
Wallace has the good and is the real thing. He has a right to be proud of that.
But when I hear a "me" guy, I think of Brandon Marshall and Wallace is nowhere near being that.

LOL. All that money and we get the "good guy" award.
I'd be the best Fing guy you ever met for 1/4 of the money he has.
He needs to stop dropping passes that hit him in the chest. He should get the hole in the hand award this year.
Dropping passes and being a one trick pony is one thing.......being a selfish "me" guy is another, if he was a douche, I highly doubt that the press would of voted him for the nice guy award (or whatever the hell it was called). I never really liked the signing in the first place (and still dont), but to call him something he's not is not really fair IMO.
It's time for "The Dawn" to earn her money, restructure that contract and give us some room to sign some top notch O-linemen.

Agree, Chryen.
One can separate the "me" guys into different categories.
I just don't think Wallace is going to restructure his contract (willingly). He battled too hard to get that $60M and I highly doubt he is going to give it up.
I agree with what eesti said when it was clarified, I think Wallace would be willing to restructure so long as his guaranteed money and bottom line doesn't change... But that would most likely have to involve mortgaging the future for now, and I am not sure that is the best way to go and can be dangerous for a franchise... I would rather get that big 17 million dollar cap hit scheduled for next year over with and out of the way then put it off...

First off I would like to say that Ireland WAY overpaid for Wallace even though I think he has provided unseen benefits and will get better. It was a dumb contract.
Biting the bullet this year is not a bad idea. I was thinking restructure just to knock 2 or 3 mil off this years cap since we have 8 starters who are free agents and need 4 starters just on the o-line.
Like I said, he has alreaddy been paid 12 mil but only 3.25 has come off the books.
He has 27 mil guaranteed.
He has cap hits of...
2014 17m
2015 12m
2016 13.7m
2017 13.7m
I would just adjust it down to 15m this year and raise the following 3 years to even it out.
That would leave us with only 8.75 mil to pay in 2015 to meet the guaranteed money (in case he doesn't perform) if we need to move him and at the same time, still free up some money to sign one more FA lineman or ??.
