Afraid of changing Head Coaches every two years

Woodrow Wilson was a good President.

But after him we had to suffer through Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, who did nothing, and worst Herbert Hoover. But America was not afraid of change.

But we eventually got Franklin Roosevelt.

Just because we went through Wanny, Cam, Sparano, there is no reason because of not wanting to make another change from Philbin.

If you really think Philbin is a good coach and that he is responsible for none of our problems, by all means support him.

but don't just support him based on not wanting to change again so quickly.

Under that logic, we would have stayed with Sparano.

Tampa Bay got Gruden and won the Superbowl. Sometimes it just takes a spark. Right now the car won't even turn over.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

You are looking at this in an autistic manner, Just your opinion. My point is that if you determine a person is doing a bad job, whether 2 years or 1 day or 4 years, you get rid of him. I never mentioned how much time Sparano had but just that we had determined that he was not good.

and make that 3 years not four because his fourth year commenced with us trying to replace him and failing if my memory serves me correctly.

did he or did he not coach the majority of his 4th season?

The problem is that we had Shula, then JJ who bailed after cracking under the pressure of him doing a half ass** job, then he recommended Wanny who was a disaster and should have never been given the job in the first place.

Then when that didn't work we started our real slide in earnest;

Because we had a series of knee jerk firings and hires...

Saban...great hire at the time, but man what a douchebag, lying quitter.
Cam...just what we needed in a coach, but the stupid fans of the world got him fired after one season where he never had the ability or the resources to re-make the roster into his vision of what he needed.
Parcells and company...enough said, just a disaster from day one.
Sparano...just more of the BP philosophy.
Philbin...good coach, but we need better results from here on out.

So, since Shula we've had 8 head coaches including the interim guys...6 offensive systems, and have flip flopped from 3-4 to 4-3 defensive fronts and changed secondary schemes, each change requiring different personnel and roster turnover.

You just can't have an elite team through all of this...of course you have to pick the right guys but stability is very important to the success of an NFL team. We have not had anything remotely close to that.

Teams go through lean times, at times, they shouldn't mean that everyone gets replaced.

My thoughts on the coaches we've hired:

I did not like nor did I want JJ when he was hired. I wanted Marty Schottenheimer.

Wanny never liked him and always thought he was a very poor coach.

Saban, really liked the hire at the time.

Cam really liked the hire because I was tired of defensive minded coaches and could see the league was going toward more and more offense.

Parcells, never thought he was a good hire as our guru. I liked his no nonsense approach but I've always thought he was very over rated.

Sparano, gave him the benefit of the doubt initially...

Philbin, was my #1 choice of the available guys.

Understand what you are saying, dolphaholic, but the things that have recently transpired have me second guessing myself on giving Philbin another year to fix the problems.

My problem is, he didn't even attempt to fix the problems during the season, so what leads us to believe he will fix them during the off season?

I am not as strong on dumping Philbin as Chryen, but with the nonsense going on in the FO (including Ross) I am not questioning everything Miami Dolphins.confused smiley

Dude really? He got fired after one year because he drafted A punt returner with the overall #9 spot in the draft. Fine if your a playoff Team looking to add some Speed. But a team with No starting QB!!? Gonzo. I'm glad the door hit him square in the ass.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Okay, holic. JUST FOR YOU. From the date of this post, I will impose upon myself a ten day moratorium on

A) criticizing Philbin
or

cool smiley asking for his resignation.

Ten days to the minute.

Now don't you other devils on the board try and bait me.

That should have been "now" instead of "not."

RE: Yes really, that he got fired after a bad season is one thing but it was NOT because he was a party to drafting Tedd Ginn.

The thing that really gripes me is that people rush to judge him on the record that year as if that meant he was a poor coach. Its hard to be a good, sucessful coach if you don't have the personnel to do what you envision...he didn't. Ginn was simply the start of the renovation project and would have been teamd up with other guys lessening the burden on any one of them.

We really have no idea about that, because he was not here long enough. Reasons; the system he wanted to run was in no way similar to what the pervious coaches were doing. Cam wanted to run a very fast, athletic system with smaller linemen that could pull and move around using quick feet. He also wnated to have a group of five receivers that were extremely fast, quick, and as a group uncoverable. A athletic TE was also on his list of wants.

This team would have ended up being very similar to the one we all stood in awe of in Saint Louis for a few seasons had he been able to see it through to the end.

We didn't get the chance and neither did Cam. I would have liked to have seen it...it would have ben fun.

Water under the bridge now.
