And where are the Niners headed? Playoffs and beyond. We could certainly do a lot worse.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

This guy was a major factor in building the current team. Very respected by Pete Carroll

I think Ireland is gone. Just a matter of the NFL releasing its report so he can blame it on them. Hes a pussy that way.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

You consider Alex Smith a good pick. #1 overall, and for several years he had BUST written all over him.

I have been an advocate for McCloughan for awhile now. The only issue I have is he seems like he has a bit of moron in him just like Jeff Ireland. He had some bonehead moments in SF and pften sticks his foot in his mouth.

Even now in Seattle, he answers to GM, Trent Baalke and is not a front man.

That is why this team needs a President. Someone who the HC and GM report to independently. It is a blueprint that has been successful for several teams.

I would be ok with McC as the GM if he had to report to a team President.

One is in charge of personnel, one is in charge of coaching. The GM has no power over the HC and vice versa. In this structure the GM does not have hiring or firing power over coaches.

In hindsight Smith wasn't a great #1 pick but most other teams(Phins included when we needed a QB!) passed on Rodgers, and Smith is still in the NFL How many other QB aren't, and he got them value in return. I think everyone was big on him coming out of Urban meyer's system

I never understood why Rodgers dropped he looked great for Cal in games I saw against USC

Balke is niner GM, John Schneider is Seahawks GM

Oh yeah...got them mixed up.

Alex Smith didn't have much of a supporting cast his first few years in SF. No o-line and no WR's doesn't exactly hep a QB progress. Brandon Lloyd, Araz Battle. They were still rebuilding and Mike Nolan had full control at the time.

If Ireland gets fired, one possibility is that Brian Gaine is promoted. Anthony Hunt, Director of Pro Scouting, is another internal possibility IMO.

Personally, I'd like to see the Dolphins go back to a weak GM model. All I've seen since Jimmy Johnson left are GMs and Head Coaches firing each other or pointing fingers at each other. Why not make one guy accountable?

Yep. Shula trusts him, and Ross listens to Shula. Again, just speculating...

gotta disagree chris. philbin is lucky to have the job he has---what has he done to merit control over personnel? and the HC/personnel combo almost always fails, even by coaches with WAY more pedigree than philbin. and shula is pretty irrelavent now, he's been away from the game for decades and he also liked sporano and chad henne!!

Again, just mulling over possibilities. Yes, Shula liked Sparano but he never said he was "the right man for the job" and he never gushed over him the way he did over Philbin.

Ross isn't listening to the fans or the media here. That much is clear.

Could we consider Chudzinki for Sherman's replacement, if they make the move?

So what good is Joe Philbin if we bring in a COMPLETELY new offensive scheme?
