We don't want a QB who runs because he takes too many hits... But if you watch Tannehill when he runs he rarely gets hit, on the contrary he takes his punishment in the pocket trying to pass.... I am not saying we should make him a running QB, just the irony of the dangers of him running verse passing... He ran a 48 yard run the other day, longest by a QB in Dolphins history and never got tackled...

Something else I have noticed, Crowder, over the last couple of games: RT is still getting sacked, but they aren't of the vicious nature like they were the first three quarters of the season. These types of sacks he can survive; those other one's could put him on the sideline.
All in all I have to agree with the Sherm + Philbin's philo to make this kid a pocket coitusback and not do the easy thing (for cheap short-term wins) and run the read option like SF or Wash -- who now both have severely retarded CBs who may never grow into full blown N F L coitusbackhood.
But Thill sure is a dandy looking runner when he gets his gate open and the kid can eat up yards in a hurry! The threat of his run is always radiating in the background and of course that's just one more card in the deck we can play whenever we want.
And it usually gets us a BIG payoff.
But yes. In this case -- less is more. And forcing Thill to hang in the pocket has definitely paid off in his overall development as a legit N F L franchise CB on the rise!

I agree you want him to spend that extra time trying to let the pass play develop rather then be itching to run. That is normally the best QB philosophy and development for long term... When Tannehill runs, it is not based on his athletic skills or speed, it is because of a big hole that he can exploit or (necessity) trying to make a 1st down on a 3rd down where the pass play isn't there...
The fact ironic as I see it, remains the same, he seems in more jeopardy in the pocket then when he decides to escapes it...

I think we can all grasp the "irony" aspect here -- and furthermore conclude the "flight response" to run away from personal danger is the safer, more "primitive" impulse than hanging in there against the charging bulls. Which, in this case, is ironically the more "advanced" impulse.

I just know how much you like Irony, so I didn't want to disappoint your salacious appetite for such ideas and concepts...

lol, ok, but he sure got a lot accomplished... and had a tremendous impact on the world.... Every great mind in all facets of life took ideas and concepts from those before them... more irony?

Stupid article, sour English grapes. Doesn't matter if the data is out there, the guy who puts it together is the guy who gets the credit. Just ask Nicola Tesla.

More running? Oh, just no more "read option" running.
I love it that he has gotten over the hump on TD to INT ratio. Currently @ 20:14
He has improved in every major category. Comp %, TD:INT, yards, TD's, rushing, QB rating, etc.
All this in spite of bad coaching. SMH
He should end up with similar numbers to those of Peyton Manning as a sophomore. 62.1 comp %, 4,135/26/15.
Except Manning was only sacked 14 times that year and was part of the "Big 3" with Marvin Harrison and Edgerrin James (and a great running game)!!!! 1,551/13 rushing for Edge and 1,663/12 for MH!!
Tannehill is a top 10 QB.
Imagine this offense with a legit o-line, RB's and Brandon Gibson back.

This seems to be true. And he could be a LOT better with OL help.

ah hem! PLAYING him at WR. See you're getting it wrong. You could have got the same laugh value.
If I remember correctly, I wanted us to trade back at 8.

I think Tannehill is improving and a top 15 QB but IMO not top ten yet... While agree having his TD to int ratio look better is a good strong sign that I am delighted to see improve greatly... But we can't overlook that the turnover to TD ratio is still mediocre... He needs to get those fumbles under control... It seems to have improved greatly in recent weeks as his pocket presence improved... For he wasn't in as many situation where the ball is in dangerous territory, the better he felt the pass rush...
I think once his long ball ratio goes up, he is a top ten QB, until then IMO he is in the top 15... He does many things that are top ten but he still needs to overcome the long ball and turnovers... giving up the ball is a big deal in my book and so is missing a wide open WR for a TD.... I am not trying to knock RT, I think he is doing great but I think you guys are overlooking some issues that still need time to develop before rating him that high overall... I think he will get there, I just don't think he is there yet....

I'd agree that the long ball and the turnovers are two things that need some work. If he fixes those two issues, he will easily be a top ten QB.
But who are the ten QBs you'd rate ahead of him?
Rodgers, Manning, Brees, Brady, Rivers, Wilson, Romo, and Roethlisberger are all definitely ahead of him. That's eight guys.
You could make an argument that he is better than guys like Cutler, Eli, Newton, Ryan, Luck, and Stafford.
For me, Tannehill is sitting just outside the top ten but won't be for long.
That is the ESPN NFL QBR stat not passer rating.... I agree, RT is a top 15 QB, you were just asking me to put guys in front of him in the top ten, and based on both overall QBR and passer rating there are many more that belong in the conversation...

So you believe the NFL and ESPN ratings are a better assessment than PFF?
I rated him in the top 10 because this has been a down year for many of the well known QB's.
He is 10th in yards and tied for 9th in TD's. He is also 6th worst in int's but I guess I was figuring in upside and the steady improvement. Plus the fact that ALL of the guys ahead of him are seasoned vets with the exception of Russell Wilson and maybe Nick Foles. Foles is having a ridiculous year but has about half the snaps and hasn't been asked to carry the team with no running game. He has the best RB in football this year.
Look how much better RT has been with the improved running game/line.
It's really hard to say and it's hard to gauge. All the rating systems have fault but I would say the NFL is the most outdated.
I'm still pretty stoked for what's ahead. Sure looks like we found a QB of the future.

Nope, both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah there is a bit of a logjam once you get past the obvious top 8 or so. Lots of good young Qbs with potential.

This. This is the most important point and I agree.
