Poll on Ross's motive

Poll
What was Ross's Motive for praising Philbin at the BullyGate Press conference?

What do you think was Ross's motive in stressing very strongly that he has never met someone who was, in effect, a nicer guy than Joe Philbin when he interviewed him for Head Coach.

One option is that it was his way of signalling to Philbin to relax, his job is safe.

Another option is that he intends to fire Philbin if the NFL report condemns the atmosphere in the locker room.

Of course, a third option is that it means nothing (of course then why would he say anything but it has to be an option.)

As usual with me, I will not be the first vote.

It is a complicated question... I think it means Ross supports Philbin and not so much Jeff Ireland... But if we hire a new GM, he is suppose to be the guy who hires his own coach.... Unless, Ross, plans on promoting from with in, I am not sure. I would think Philbin's job is safe, but if the GM is replaced, is anybody who use to work for him safe to the new guy and how does that work, exactly.... Ross is only going to interview GM's that want to keep working with Philbin? Nothing would surprise me with Ross.... But I am not sure....

Ross loves Philbin. End of story.

Ross has his own personal skin in the game on this one.

That means that you should vote that it meant nothing, Crowder, if for no other reason that it is impossible to say what it meant by your way of thinking.

I think it meant something Chyren, that whatever happens, Ross will be fighting for Philbin as he did in that press conference... I just don't now what is going to happen with the GM position and that has an affect on all of the football management/ positions in the entire organization, from the Water boy to HC... But when the boss and guy paying the bills wants to keep a guy or HC, that is pretty strong guy to have on your side.... SO I think Ross supporting Philbin means something and to vote it means nothing doesn't seem like a correct response for me...

It meant nothing.
Like giving Sparano an extension before firing him.
Ross has to stand behind his man while the investigation is ongoing. To do otherwise is to admit that you were wrong.
Billionaires never admit to being wrong. Who can blame them.

I agree with Hooligan for the reasons he stated.

So you guys both think Philbin will be fired after the season?

I think Ross understands Philbin, and wants to give him a chance. I think that is why he extended Ireland. Philbin is a calm and calculated guy that Ross can relates to understands and feels comfortable with. Could you imagine Ross trying to relate and deal with an emotional guy like Jon Gruden... I think Philbin most likely survives and the reason being is Ross's support...

No, both Hooligan and I were basically saying that the statement was NON-COMMITTAL. It sounded like a ringing endorsement but was an opinion volunteered BEFORE the NFL and NFLPA investigations were barely almost begun, let alone finished.

It was a politician's way of making you THINK he said something when he didn't.

He said that Philbin was a nice guy. The response is "and?????"

At most, that means I hired him because he really impressed me as a nice guy.
