Hindsight off-season 2013

2013 off season....

Bad Moves:

Not resign Reggie Bush: Mistake. Ireland gets a ding on this one as well as Philbin who could not figure out the obvious way to utilize him. He is a playmaker and does it on average to poor lines. Could be of use here and was not expensive.

Not resign Jake Long: Mistake. Many of us were down on him after a down (injured) year but he has rebounded and is the 2nd ranked tackle in the NFL so far. 2nd to only Nate Solder.

Swap Burnett for Phillip Wheeler: Huge Mistake! he ranks 72nd which is behind every LB on our team....even the backups. Our DT's are solid but our defense is not. Missing tackles is his game. Burnett is ranked 16th.

Drafting & signing injured players: Taylor, Jordan, Thomas, Louis etc.

Questionable.........................

Extend Reshad Jones: Jury still out but not lookin good. He has regressed badly and is ranked 80th with a -9.9 rating compared to a #3 ranking last year and a 22.1 rating!

Franchise Starks: Starks is among the top DT's in the league and probably should have been signed long term. Definitely good that we kept him though.

Swap Dansby for Dannelle Ellerbe: struggling vs the run but a wash overall when compared to Dansby. Only saving grace is that he is younger.

Sign Mike Wallace: ranked 97th but I still think he will get better and is not being used/coached properly and is still our leading receiver in yards.

2013 draft: One pick has shown promise out of all of the picks. Dion Jordan...and we gave up two picks to get him.

Good Moves:

Hartline ranked 18th, Gibson ranked 19th, Clemons (ranked 9th with a 5.7 rating), Grimes is ranked 8th, Dimitri Paterson is ranked 15th, releasing Richard Marshall who is ranked 155th.

Moves we should have made:

Sign Gosder Cherilus to play RT. He ranks 19th in the league compared to Clabo @ 68, Eric Winston @ 62.

There were many moves we could have made at guard but this line....

Long, Incog, Pouncey, Jerry, Cherilus

...is probably all pro level. Jerry would be much better playing with these guys and be more than adequate but a better draft with us coming away with players like Kiko Alonso and Larry Warford would have done wonders for the future, salary cap etc.

Leave out the "splash" (cough, cough) we made at LB in the off season, draft those players and put together a good offensive line to protect your QB and we are probably winning the division right now.

As long as Incognito was in that line, we would have some sort of massive breakdown in pass blocking.

Yes. He should probably be a RG but now he is just involuntarily retired.
