I read that this morning too.
It seems to indicate that Ireland is doing his job identifying and getting some of these guys to begin with but, the coaches are not doing their jobs getting the most out of them.

disagree hooligan. ireland is in charge of the cuts, he let bush go, he traded marshall for cents on the dollar he paid, he gets no pass at all in this

If Bush had been used correctly by the coaches his worth would have been more apparent to Ireland.
Marshall needed to go but, even there I fault the coaches for not being able to control him or motivate him.
Vontae Davis and Smith had the ability to be the top rated shut down corner tandem in the league but, again it was the coach's inability to motivate and utilize them to their potential.
Like the article says, we could have been set at corner and could have used the resources to build the o-line.

True, but Ireland deserves a pass...to a certain extent anyway. Because he has had to deal with BP's BS, two very different coaches, and two very different systems and styles of play. With respect to those things he HAS to listen to the coaches when they say what they need.

Its hard to transition from a big, fat, plodding, man on man and beat him style, to a quick, athletic, fleet-footed, very disciplined, timing based, big play oriented style.

And do it in one 16 game season...now 23 games.

Of course mistakes have been made.

I don't see how any of that explains his personnel decisions. vontae, bush, marshall, etc have nothing to do with parcells plodding style vs whatever it is we do now

I always said Smith was a press corner and not a zone guy. Sick of these professional coaches not able to see what I can see.

Ireland could be a decent personnel man but should have never been a GM. He should be the one who presents the players to the coaches. Not making the big decisions....like coach hiring, deciding which players to pick from, etc.

The biggest mistake is continuing to hire inexperienced noobs who can't see that the personnel they have don't FIT the stupid 'system' they knew wherever they were before...yet they keep pounding the proverbial square peg into the round hole.

It's like we've known all along -- and yet wanted to be *positive* & *optimistic* --- Ireland freaking sucks. End of story.

At best -- he can build a half-ass team. At worst -- he's an incredibly inept bumbling idiot...

Perhaps he's a decent "scout," but that's the extent of his competence.

He's totally out of his league as a GM.

Regretfully, it looks like everything has to be dismantled again.

Maybe we get Andy Reed?

LOL.
