A slight correction of our memories of Baby T

I have been as guilty as anyone of this. I have often said that Tony's playcalling was too conservative.

But when you put your memory to an accuracy test, that was not the case.

We were frustrated because he "fist-pumped" scoring field goals.

but it wasn't the case that he played for a field goal instead of a touchdown.

He only called for a field goal when we had no choice.

We were frustrated to have to settle for a field goal and we didn't like to see him so seemingly satisfied that that is all we ended up with.

Bottom line. We really can't accurately say that we lost games because Sparano settled for field goals.

The truth is that it just ended up that way.

On the other hand, we HAVE lost games because of Philbin's failure to ensure successful field goals.

Honestly, I think Sparano was in over his head as a head coach. He probably got too much credit for winning the division his first year (combination of Pennington falling into our lap and Brady getting hurt)
and too much blame for all the losing that followed. I still think the one constant that keeps this team from becoming a contender is a front office that knows what the hell it's doing. We've gone from Wannstedt/Spielman to Cam Cameron/Randy Mueller to Nick Saban to Bill Parcells/Jeff Ireland. Put someone in charge like an Ozzie Newsome and see how much better the coaching all of a sudden becomes. It's a lot easier to coach great players than average to below average ones. Just my opinion.

If Sparano was over his head, Philbin is already a dead body floating in the middle of the lake.

It's not surprising that the guy that advocated drafting Ryan Tannehill..........to play him at WR! would be rueing the days of Tony Sparanoeye rolling smiley

LOL, eesti. Let's put it like this. Tony never LOST us games and if he were coach with the exact same scenarios that have played out this year, with the exception of the playcalling .......we would be 5-1 and not 3-3.

He would never have had Tanny passing in the Ravens game and having Tanny getting sacked and making a makeable 51 yard field goal into an iffy 57 yard field goal. So we are 4-1 instead of 3-2.

SECONDLY, he would never have had Tanny passing on 2nd and 8 WITH A ONE POINT LEAD WHEN HE HAD BEEN SACKED SO MANY TIMES BEFORE IN THAT GAME and we had been running much better than passing and we were trying to run the clock out. He would have run as much time off the clock as possible, make Buffalo use its timeouts, punted the ball and relied on our defense.

Sparano had Henning calling the plays and he would have run the wildcat twice and send Henne back in to convert the 3rd and 8.
As I recall that didn't sit too well with you either.

True, Hooligan, but the third down passing would have been the same under both and the wildcat! wildcat! wildcat! would have been preferable to the sacks and fumbles and sacks and out of field goal range.

And eesti the grass does look greener because we were in a JUNKYARD UNDER SPARANO but now WE ARE IN A DESERT UNDER PHILBIN.
