Dolphins on the brink of a trade?

Jeff Darlington was just on NFL Network and mentioned that the Phins are looking to trade for a RB.

Armando just tweeted that the Dolphins facility is in a frenzy right now.

Could a trade be in the works? What RB would you want?

Salguero said a team source was definitive in saying they aren't adding a rb.

Maybe a lineman? Joe Thomas?

I guess we all see now that not resigning Bush was a mistake. He did much more behind a very similar line.

Jake Long is ranked 8th for OT's.

Again, I think that the running statistics are INADEQUATE but the running backs are adequate.

You've got Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas, Marcus Thigpen, and Mike Gillislee. You have to design the plays that would make them effective runners.

Each time I look at them in a game, they are all being used wrong. Once in a blue moon when they need short yardage, they will bring in Daniel Thomas but more than likely, they will try to ram Lamar Miller up the middle. and they're surprised he doesn't get much yardage???

Get him out in space and toss him the ball in the open space and see what happens. Haven't seen much of Gillislee either.

Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero

Dolphins source now tells me team is trying to add OL help ... We'll see.

Kind of silly they waited until after the bye week to start looking at help.

Branden Albert??????

I thought I read that Albert couldn't be traded because he signed his tender or something?

the last thing we need is a new RB. it would be like putting earrings on a pig. barry sanders couldn't run behind our line. what we need are OL, if we make a trade it will be for one of them---but what OL is on the market? pretty much nobody, which makes me think all this trade talk is bogus

Too bad we can't trade away Mike Sherman. And he can take his vanilla playbook with him.

I don't have any problems with the plays we are calling. But, if the OL is not giving RT enough time to go through his progressions (and they aren't) or are not opening holes for the RB's to run through (again they aren't) then we won't have a truly effective offense.

We are averaging a paltry 2.4 seconds from the snap until RT is getting pressure...that's not nearly good enough.

Its even worse that RT has attempted a throw in 2.28 seconds on average. That means he's not looking at anything but his #1 or maybe #2 read and does not have the time to allow deeper routes to develop. He's trying to compensate for the lack of blocking by getting the ball out as quickly as possible.

Then he gets sacked in an avarage of 3.6 seconds (league best is 4.3 seconds) and attempts to scramble in 4.6 seconds (league best is 6.2 seconds...an absolute eternity)

Another .7 seconds for things to develop would be of great benefit to not only RT but for our WR's as well. That would help the team be much more effective on offense and would lengthen our drives and time of possession.

Hope they don't start shipping away draft picks again ALA Spielmen. That could kill this team until the 2020's. I don't think any team will part with any quality O line guy. Those guys you either have to draft or discover, no way around it.

What Teams have depth at the position? Maybe they are thin on defense? hate to give up some depth but it might be our only option......

I agree. Giving up draft picks for a RB is stupid.

and...D-holic

I was under the impression you can sign a franchise player but the compensation is 2 first round picks unless the team agrees for less.

Ken, the play calling is HORRIBLE. He calls runs from under center and passes out of shotgun. If he would run out of that shotgun too we would run the ball very well.

Look at the Eagles they run out of shotgun and their back leads the league in rushing.

Lesean McCoy is a special RB. We don't have one of those.

The puzzling part to me is....

We have a run back who has 1 career carry for 8 yards....hence the 8 ypc average. Why not give him the ball more?

He was targeted once in the NOLA game and turned a 2 yard pass into a 50 yard gain. Get Thigpen more invlove....I think they are at least trying.

the idea of trading for a RB makes no sense. the problem is not miller (ok thomas sucks) who is averaging 4+ yds a carry, it is the OL. if we give up a pick and a big contract to a guy like MJD, wtf would the thought process be given that we let reggie bush walk over 4mm a year?

What I don't like about the play calling goes deeper than just plays that are called....

Our formations are very predictable - we do the same thing for every given formation it seems. Teams know when we're going to run, and they know when we're going to pass because of the formations. No adjustments are made to exploit any opponent's weaknesses.

All the plays out of any given formation have been figured out in addition to player deficiencies and not using players to their potential - hence the sorry running game and all the sacks RT has taken. There's no deception whatsoever with this offensive "system".

I can't blame the players for not doing different things in different formations, but there has to be accountability for that, and that falls on the coaching staff. I've said it before - this looks like preseason vanilla stuff. It's not going to work an entire season.

It's no wonder to me that Sherman was run out of A&M.

If they add a RB, that tells me that they think ours can't block, I'm sure a decent blocking RB would help with the sack problem, but at what cost? Plus, it looks like these rumors have died down anyway.

@ eesti, you could be right, I just thought I heard something about ALbert not being tradeable now.

I'd trade Sherman for a tackling dummy and a bag of balls. The dummy could replace Clabo, and Martin needs some balls!

Miller could be a stud, nice vision.

808phan, that is what I have been saying all along. That one play we run like 20 times a game where all the receivers run 5 yards and turn around has got to go.

We've run that wheel route where the RB goes way out wide has been open all 3 times I've seen it run. Once tannehill did not look at it, once it got big yards, and once the RB dropped the ball. We should run it 20 times a game over that other one.

More like Ireland offered a 2015 6th round pick for Joe Thomas and was turned down.

Isn't Thomas a LT? If we do get him, which I wouldn't mind at all, then I would guess the plan would be to move Martin back to RT? At least RT's blind side would be protected.

I still don't see not resigning Bush as a mistake. I feel the line is worse than last year, which is what is getting RT killed back there and not opening up many running lanes for our backs. If Miller could break the line, he could get some big gains, as he has on occasion this year.

I don't believe anyone here said Jake wasn't a good OL. Our complaint was that he was asking way more than he was worth as far as salary, and he couldn't finish the season for the last three years (I believe?). The NFL is only in week 7. Let's see if he can stay in the lineup the whole year.

Line Miller out wide with Thomas in the backfield. That's what they were supposed to do with Reggie last year, but never really implemented it.

Well, it may just be that either no one was available, Miami couldn't get the kind of deal they wanted, or they have been working on "something" and it is now taking form and something may be happening shortly. Or....this is just a bunch of BS and there is absolutely nothing going on.

I read where while all this news is coming out, Ireland isn't even around; he is out scouting somewhere. Unless that's where he is attempting to get this deal done?
