Might be time for a demotion and time to elevate Derrick Shelby!

Vernon is grading out as the worst DE in football out of players who took at least 25% of the snaps. He is not holding up against the run on the weak side.

Might be time to replace him with Shelby in the speed package as well.

Shelby is rated the 24th best. Vernon must be somewhere around 64.

If you look back and compare to last year with Odrick at base DE, we were ranked #1 in rushing defense through the first half of the season.

Now Soliai is hurt.

Shelby seems to make plays whenever he's in there. I tend to agree that Shelby has earned more playing time.

Derrick Shelby is the #3 rated DE in the NFL. In just 20 pass rush snaps, he has three solo tackles, an assist, two sacks, and two forced fumbles and four total QB pressures.

In 20 pass rush snaps, Dion Jordan has two tackles, a sack, and three total pressures. He is the #13 rated DE.

Good for him. He's had a nice start to the season. I hope he continues to improve.

But does anyone really think, even at PFF, that Derrick Shelby is the 3rd best DE in the league?

If you were drafting players off this team to other teams, do you think he'd be anything other than the 4th DE selected?

No. Not at all but he is playing well enough to win a starting spot for the Miami Dolphins and has made the most of his limited snaps.

Limited snaps is the key.

It keeps him fresh. He gets to come off the bench as a guy with fresh legs and full energy and go up against an OT who has is worn down from having to deal with Wake or Vernon up to that point.

Two games, and limited snaps are just two small a sample size for me to start pimping him as a starter.
