I'm all for shuffling players on the oline at this point in camp.

You have to prepare for different scenarios (injuries) that could occur throughout the year.

Its better to find out now who your 2nd and 3rd best options are at LT, LG , C etc so you don't waste developmental time in those spots the rest of the summer.

I'd rather find out if its worth investing more time in Thomas at LT today than in the 4th quarter versus Atlanta.

Besides, we have an extra week of camp this year. And with the number of snaps we run in practice we should be giving different combinations a chance to get a feel for playing with each other.

I give it another 2 weeks. Once we finish our 2nd preseason game, you'll see the starting units begin to solidify and then they can focus on building chemistry.

Until then all we are doing is investing in the development of our backups and that isnt a bad thing.

We should not be messing around with pouncy st guard. He is a pro bowl center and josh samuda is not. This is very sporano-esque and makes me question what philbin is thinking. It's been like 2 or 3 days now

Could be that Samuda isn't athletic enough to pull as a guard. Pouncey clearly is.

If Samuda is a weak link at G because he can't execute the play book, but is a good player at C because his skill set fits that position, then its possible that there could come a time this season when they have to play together.

Its better to find out now which combination gives that unit its best chance to succeed.

Samuda is the backup center. If pouncy got hurt he steps in. But if a guard gets hurt why move pouncy over and have 2 new players in the middle of the line? Seems a waste if time unless they are truly considering doing that , which I hope they are not

Its really not about who is the stating center and who is the back up.

Its about which combination of 5 O-lineman as a group give us the best chance to execute our offense.

This offense needs athletic guards who can pull to make the running game work.

If playing Pouncey at OG and Samuda at Center gives us two guards who can move, without creating a gaping hole at Center, then its a viable option.

The only way to find out if its our BEST option is to test drive it for a bit at the beginning of camp.

Don't forget that Pouncey played guard in college until his brother went pro. He didn't play center until his Senior year. Its not a new position for him.

Pouncey is a powerhouse and very special.. Very few centers in the history of the league can pull and get out front like Pouncey... Moving Pouncey doesnt make a lot of sense to me... RG is the easiest position on the line... Moving our highest paid OLinemen to RG, doesnt make a lot of sense either... Samuda, Thomas or Jerry are likely to get the starting RG job... What we are doing now seems a bit weird... But I guess we have to trust in the coaches that they know more then we do...

I mean, is John Jerry such a lynchpin of the line that if he gets injured we need to move 3 other folks to replace him? I though Jerry was a guy we had earmarked to cut each of the past 3 seasons? What the coaches are doing is mindboggling and it needs to stop. Any shuffling that involves moving Pouncy is moronic, unless Josh Samuda is actually a 23 year old Dwight Stevenson and he forgot to tell everyone

Even Stephenson played a little guard in his 1st two years as a reserve.

Its really not a big deal.

Our offense needs two guards that can pull. THAT is the lynchpin of our running game.

If Samuda can't pull then he's a backup guard who might be a starting center.

All they are doing the last few days is figuring out which combinations give them the most efficient line to execute their offense.

I understand the movement, but I don't necessarily agree with it. I am OK with it right now, but after the HOF game, the coaches need to get serious and name their starting five.

All these coaches have to do is look back at the Sparano days to see what mixing and matching of the OL will do - nothing!

If Lance Louis gets healthy, its probably all a moot point. He and Incognito will play Guard. Pouncey will be the center.

I think Samuda has a shot at the guard job, Philbin is very high on him, said he is the hardest working guy on the team and has done great things so far... I think Thomas and Samuda are the likely candidates if Jerry waivers, I am not sure if Louis will even make the team at this point, you cant win a job in the training room....

We need to get an Olineman in the first round again next year if we want to be special. We got Jake Long at the wrong point in time for us. As good as he was, he was blocking for nothing special. Now we need some hole makers for some truly special players. .05 seconds can make a huge difference in the NFL.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Interesting fact. In our last Superbowl we had a monster O-Line, but our 2 best linemen (Dwight Stephense & Ed Newman) were NOT 1st rounders.

Sounds like Martin is getting roasted by Jordan AND Vernon. Thomas working at LT again but with 2nd team I think. Not very encouraging for the lines most important player.

Let's see how he does Sunday in Canton.

If he's the best player on the board...ok.

But it does look as if we are going to have to upgrade the LT spot in the off-season on way or another. At least at this point in time.

If we struggle this season because of the LT position I am going to be pissed...and it might spell disaster for Ireland.. With how in love with Jake Long fellow michigan Alumni Stephen Ross was, it could spell trouble in Irelandville... Ross seemed pretty upset about us not signing Long... I dont think we had a real shot, at any real upgrades at the position over Long this FA period... We lost him over about 2 million a year give or take... I sure hope he doenst shine next year in St Louis.... We drafted a luxury in Jordan instead of one of the top 3 tackles... I like Jordan, not knocking the pick, but for the team to struggle at such a crucial position for a young QB in a crucial year, you just have to question the wisdom... I pray Martin gets it together, I really dont want it to go like that this year... I hope Ireland knew what he was doing this offseason... Also if Martin struggles, that was a 2nd rd draft pick wasted, which doesnt make me feel to good either... It is to early for this talk I understand, but the news or Martin getting roasted isnt warming... I just hope it was overstated by the reporters at camp, or he was having an off day....

Or maybe Jordan and Vernon are going to be monsters...

That would make my year! If the only reason Martin struggled in camp so far was because the level at which Jordan and Vernon are practicing...

If Jordan sucks and Johnson is a real good LT then it will be a huge problem for Ireland.

But if Jordan is a stud, it won't matter a bit how good Johnson is.

You can never have too may pass rushers in this league.

Besides. You can't fill every hole on a 7-9 team in one off-season, not too mention the fact that you had to give Martin a shot. After all, he was a high 2nd round pick.

If LT derails this season I'll be more disappointed that the Martin pick was a bust than I will be that we didn't draft a LT #3 overall the year after we took one #42.

I am happy with the Jordan pick, he seems to be a special type of athlete that doesnt come around but once in a long while... Hopefully he can put it all together for us... Yes, how well Johnson and Jake Long do will be important factors in the analysis.. I agree that if Martin fails that will be another of a long list of 2nd rd failures under Ireland's tenure as GM.. Which will be disappointing to say the least...

In business or planning I always go by the philosophy one is none and 2 is 1( a navy seal I worked with taught me that) If something is mission critical you better have 2, having just one is a plan for failure...
If Martin falters, Ireland better have a legit back up plan for the position.. . That is the last thing Tannehill needs and our running game needs, weakness on his blindside and a crucial spot, normally going up against the defenses best pass rusher..
