Matt Barkley should have went out in last years draft.........
Date: April 25, 2013 11:13PM

He was afraid to go with Luck and RGIII. He rolled the dice on this years draft and man did it backfire. He is now a second round prospect at best. I wonder if he went , if Miami would have taken him over Tanny? eye rolling smiley Glad for us he didn't.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Two different style of quarterbacks.

Matt Barkley is the traditional drop back quarterback of the old days.

Tanny is Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick and even Andrew Luck has a little of the mobility factor.

But yes, Barkley did F up BIG TIME by not coming out last year.

Wow. 98th overall. 4th Rounder. I can remember talk here about moving up this year to get him. He sounded pissed too.

The old rules about EVEN IN CERTAIN CASES, it might be better to stay in school another year, seem to be all but gone.

Anything can happen and everything DID happen to Matt Barkley, not only injury but lesser performance than his prior year.

The main guy who should be paying attention to this is Johnny Football Manziel. He said on draft coverage TODAY that although it was exciting to be there at Radio City Music Hall, he's taking it slow because he has another "couple" of years at TAM.

The interviewer immediately pounced and said, "Wait, do you mean one more season and the next year after that you'll be in the NFL or do you mean two more years in college."

Manziel basically said, he didn't know and that he was taking things one year at a time but definitely this upcoming college season.

All of the college athletes have family, friends, college and ole high school coaches advising them on such strategic decisions.

My bet is that whereas five years ago, the traditional wisdom from these family and friends was "hey, you can only improve your position by more college playing time," that's not what they usually say now.

I think now family and friends are advising the kids to strike while the iron is hot and come out now.

Johnny Football better pay attention.

Classic. He thought he'd be the 1st pick in the draft this year by staying in school. Would probably have been the starting QB for the Browns last year making a lot more money than he will now. He ends up chumping himself and only has himself to blame. lol

has this staying in school thing ever worked out?
lienart (would've been #1 overall, went 10, busted out)
brian brohm (supposed top pick went back and went late 2d, bust)
jake locker (would've been number 1, still shockingly went around 10-12)
landry jones, possible 1st rounder
barkley worst of all

sorry, one last year of partying in college does not = millions of dollars. trust me I did it for free....

It worked out pretty well for Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck.

Well, I changed the minute I (LOL) could NOT talk Ireland out of signing Wallace.winking smiley

Since that signing, I have argued AGAINST drafting any wide receiver at no. 12.

Only Buzz was because of his Dad and I remember the whole Manning Vs. Leaf thing. Can you imagine that was a tough choice!? LOL. I think Leaf is in the Pokey as we speak.

How could you forget??? The Jets had the top pick and he snubbed them to go back to school.

He can be as pissed as he wishes to be; he has too many negatives to be in the class of QB from last year.

I am sure he will be a starting NFL QB, and a good one, but there is no one to blame but himself for not being picked high. As everyone here is saying, he blew it by not coming out last year; guaranteed first rounder if he had.

BTW, as we all know, he isn't the only QB in that boat. All he has to do is look around. Geno Smith is the guy who should be pissed, if any of the QBs are; he was projected as the best of the lot and he didn't go 'til the 2nd round.

Angry? No, but he was available for Miami but they went in another direction.

I guess his knee is a concern.

Actually, he wasn't available to us unless you think he should have been the pick at #3.

After trading up for Jordan, we didn't pick again until the pick after Allen was selected.

I kinda wish SD didn't snap him up right before us in the 3d round

wow, lucky for us he did. would've sucked to face the jets with manning at the helm for 10+ years. Even if Rich Kotite was still the coach

Yep, but with his knee, I don't think I would have drafted him there, anyway.

If he fully recovers, he will be playing in the NFL for a long time; if he doesn't recover....

But then again, Ireland did go after quite a few guys that have or had injuries. So based on that, maybe he should have grabbed Allen.
