There was a poll, I believe it was on NFL.com, concerning the best and worst drafts. Miami was first up.

There were five choices, with Marino and Csonka in the running. Once I made my selection (Csonka), I pulled up the numbers and Marino was way out front (not even close).

I love Marino. However, despite his records and getting Miami to that one Super Bowl while he was QB, the Miami Dolphins of the '70s were Csonka. His running got them to three straight Super Bowls, and close to a 4th straight (where they lost to Oakland).

IMO, Csonka was more valuable with his production and the three Super bowls.

Czonka had a complete team around him something Marino never really got. I didn't even think it was a question of whether or not Marino was the single MVP of this franchise by far.. If you took out Marino and put Czonka on the Marino era teams we are not even a playoff team IMO...

Take Csonka out of the picture, and where are the teams of the '70s?

Probably more carries for Mercury Morris. WIth Czonka and Mercury Morris in 1972 we had 2 1000 yard backs.. But Morris scored double the touchdowns as Czonka.. That means we had one hell of on Oline, what happens if you take them away or take away the defense etc, There were a lot of great players on that team, that if you took them away, would change the teams success, that is the point... Marino was "the" guy...

Csonka played in an era in which you had passers, like Fran and Bob Griese but not as great passers as you had with Dan and Montana and Fouts.

Csonka also played in an era in which he was basically like Jim Brown, power football and as noted above a complete team with a good to great defense as well.

Marino started with the Killer Bees but his main problem was not so much lack of a defense as many surmise (it definitely would have helped though) but really lack of a running game of the caliber that would make opposing teams take their focus off of him and divide it between him and the running game.
