I would love to land Lane Johnson -- but it's ?? if he'll be there.
SD could easily grab him

I originally mocked him (LJ) to SD but they have a decent RT and signed King Dunlap to start at LT. A very good pass protector. This gives them more bang for the buck to protect Rivers as they also lost a starting guard in FA.

We could also get pretty good value with Cooper as a LG and move Incog if we sign a FA tackle.

Now, I would really be puzzled if we took Keenan or Corralle.

I'd be a little mad too. Why go get perhaps the top free agent WR and turn around and spend a first round draft choice on a college WR?

Particularly with our need for a 1) top flight DLineman 2) O lineman 3) CB and even a 4) top RB given Bush's departure.

(oh I see, do we rely on Daniel Thomas)?

IMO it should be BPA regardless of position. Not much chance BPA is a QB.

Don't think Johnson will be there,
Cooper, Rhodes, Werner, Ansah might

If we sign Winston, Umenyiora & Woodson, do we drop down
A bit and pick up another 2 and look
At eifert, Austin, Banks, Cyprien
Rhodes ?

I don't see us signing Woodson since we already resigned Clemons. He is not a good CB any more and questionable at FS.

I'm not sure about Osi....he seems to think a lot of himself and hasn't really done much in years. He also tends to open his mouth when he shouldn't. NFLN was talking the other day how he won't get the contract he thinks he deserves and will then procede to complain about it all year.

I was "pro" trading down but that was before we were so active in FA. I think we need quality over quantity. We should take whatever blue chipper falls to us at 12...at least one surely will.

At this point I would rather sign an OT and a CB and just get competition at DE in the draft. We are going to need some young talent for the future anyway. Cam Wake is the same age as these "aging" FA pass rushers and probably only has a few years left.

Osi = 32 in Nov
Abraham = 35 in May
Freeney = 33
Wake = 32 next Jan

I don't see how signing a "progress stopper" helps us a whole lot. Lets continue to develop Vernon and draft another DE high. We are going to need two very soon.

I think any vet we sign off that list is a short term guy for a year...maybe two. I don't think that makes them a progress stopper.

It's a looong season. We should have 4 DE's who rotate in and out to keep them fresh. Two vets. Two young guys.

I agree that if we address ot, de and cb in FA it's bpa come draft day. We have enough picks that I'd be less inclined to trade down than if we hadn't filled all our needs in FA. But I wouldn't turn down a really good offer. It's all relative to how the top 11 shake out, how far down we would be moving and what we are getting in return.

I just don't see why they wouldn'y have brought Michael Bennett, who could have been a "do it all" guy as opposed to a situational pass rusher for similar money. Bennett only got 4.8 mil on a one year deal.

Osi disappeared a lot last year which is one of the reasons JPP had fewer sacks.

If it's for less than 2 mil a year I may be ok with it.

I only see a rotation at DE between base and nickle defense. We just don't have the luxury of having 4 "do it all" types like the Giants did a few years back. Osi on passing downs takes snaps from either Vernon or a rookie. He is probably only a situational pass rusher.

I hope they learned their lesson about taking Wake off the field in that rotation since it coast us a division game last year.

Bennett has a torn rotator cuff.

In other news effecting the draft....

Bills got Kevin Kolb, Arizona may have Carson Plamer and Oakland has Matt Flynn.

I can't help but thing the Cardinals helped themselves the most. Palmer to Fitz is a pretty good connection with Arians as the HC.

It also means that maybe they wait on a QB until the 2nd round. Geno Smith could still go to Buffalo at 8 IMO.

This is not good for teams wanting a tackle since all three teams could use tackle help.

It could mean the only way to get one is to trade up with Philly at #4.

In this scenario, I would rather stay or trade down. We could get a RT later in the draft (or sign Winston) and use our top spot for a play maker....offense or defense.
