FA negotiating window

Starting this year, teams can begin negotiating contracts 3 days before the start of FA. I believe that means we can legally start talking to players and agents on midnight Sunday.

This should be a nice tool so we don't lose out on guys like Vincent Jackson simply because we underbid like last year.

I can't wait to hear the news on Wednesday morning.

Hopefully it will read like this...

Mike Wallace and Jared Cook heading to Miami.

Hopefully that headline is preceded by the signing of Hartline, Clemons and Eric Winston.

That should kill about 20 mil of cap space.

I like Omar's wish list

Right out of the gate we make offers to Wallace, Winston, Dashon Goldson

Would prefer Cook or Myers over Comboy retread martellus bennett

Go after Uminyora

He mentions nothing about drafting a WR though.

Cook will command 8mm based purely on potential, not on his production with TEN. I absolutely would be against singing Cook to that kind of deal.

I don't think we need to spend $ on Goldston, we are OK at safety, I'd resign Clemmons and extend Jones, and grab someone in the draft.

Some times paying for potential is a good thing. Seahwaks have better TE than we have and just gave a guy a 3 year contract based on a single workout. 6'7" basketball player, 280 ran a 4.6 40 I think

Clemons isn't in Goldson's league

If they want exorbitant $ move on and go get a Brent Grimes and brandon Myers. Myers may not be the deep threat but can block and will be about half the price. 79 receptions in Oakland!

Yes I agree with all of what u said, unless Clemons wants too much money.. Cook isn't worth 8, also Winston had a pretty bad year, we looked at him last year and passed.. He did nothing to improve on that last season..

Sites are now saying teams can begin negotiations as of midnight tonight. How is that 72 hours? hmmmmm

Shouldn't that be Saturday at midnight?

OK this makes no sense.

It says teams may have a 72 hour negotiating window prior to the start of FA.

They are also saying it starts at midnight eastern time on Saturday which they are saying is tonight. (1 second after 11:59:59 Friday).

For one that is not midnight Saturday. It is midnight Friday.

Secondly..

FA signing period opens at 4pm EST on Tuesday. Isn't 72 hours prior to that Saturday at 4pm?

???????????????????????

Teams cannot have any contact with the players at all...only the agents.

who are you talking about? In any event, I doubt they signed him for anything approximating $8mm likw what Cook would be demanding!

Free agency opens at 12:00am Tuesday morning.

72 hours prior to that would be 12:00am Saturday...or after midnight tonight.

Not sure i'm a big fan of this negotiating window deal, it'll make the weekend interesting and all, but it will take away the "Christmas morning" feel to the start of FA.

I like it.

It allows other teams a chance to compete for a player.

Too many times in the past, the first team to get a visit got the player.

This slows their roll a bit and gives other teams a chance to make a pitch.

It also gives teams a chance to gauge market value for their own players and sign them before FA starts.

It shouldn't have much effect on that "Christmas morning feeling"...except now it will be more Christam Eve since FA starts at 4pm Tuesday.
