As usual, the landscape looks a bit different post combine.

Rising....

Margus Hunt: Probably moved into the first round.

Dee Milliner: top 5 pick after running a 4.31

Dion Jordan: competing with Barkevious Mingo to be the first 34 OLB taken

Ziggy Ansah: top 10 pick

Shariff Floyd: probably first DT taken

Falling....

Damontre Moore: likely dropped from a top 10 pick to outside of the first round. Biggest loser so far.

Manti Teo: Likely dropped out of the first round.

Star Lotulelei: heart problems-status pending

Johnthan Banks: Likely dropped way out of 1st round after running a 4.59...possible position change to safety.

I still would put more emphasis on game tapes than combine figures.

That goes without saying but you can pretty much elimnate a guy like Johnthan Banks when he runs a 4.61. He can have all the game tape in the world with great play in college but it doesn't translate to the NFL at CB.

A good example is Malcolm Jenkins. He was the top rated CB a few years ago (along with Vontae). He ran a 4.51 and most said he couldn't play CB and would have to play safety. The Saints said "no, we will put him at CB"...and he couldn't make it. They moved him to FS and he ran a much better 40 than Banks. He is also going to have to add some weight (6'2 185). The question then becomes whether or not he can run a 4.6 with 15 extra lbs....and did he not prepare for the combine?

Banks is still in the game. A SEC CB w/ 16 career int's if he runs a 4.55 at MS State's pro day he is back where he started. At worst he drops to the 3rd rnd. Flipping the coin I picked his CB partner Slay as a 3d rnd pick for the Phins. Now he gets bumped up because of his 40 time.

The combine is like little league tryouts. If you slect based on them, you end up in last!

Most of thee guys do overspeed training to prepare for these runs

Sean Smith looked good but we see how he has played

We need a Kam Chancellor like hammer in the secondary

There was a guy from (Cal?) that was a 6.2 defensive back who ran a 4.38 today. Anybody else see that?

If you select a player solely on the combine results then, yes, you are correct. If you ignore the results then you are screwed.

It's not a negative that these players spend months at institutes training to run fast. They can take that training and increased speed an implement it into their game.

If you fail to recognize a relatively unknown talent at the combine who dominates in his class then you are doomed.

If you don't think guys like Tavon Austin, Dee Milliner, Jon Bostic and Cornelius Washington elevated their draft stock then you not looking at the entire picture.

This is how guys like Daryl Washington and Connor Barwin make a name for themselves and get a 2nd round contract instead of a 4th. No one was talking about these players before the combine. Now they are very good players.

If you ignore the fact that Damontre Moore ran a 4.9 and go ahead and draft him with the 3rd pick while ignoring Dion Jordan...you may be in trouble.
