Reports about potential Miami Dolphins:

OL: #79 Eric Fisher/Central Michigan (6072/305) came into the week hoping to elevate his stock and there are whispers that he is now on the verge of being a Top Ten selection in April. He has the length, athletic ability and temperament to play for a long time and he is only going to get better as he develops.

OL: Oklahoma’s #69 Lane Johnson (6062/302) has shown the length and ability to play both LT and RT. He has been very secure in his lateral movements and has shown the knee bend to hold his ground when being bull rushed. He is a certain 2nd round pick and may be emerging as a 1st round possibility. #65 Garrett Gilkey of tiny Chadron State measured in at anything but “tiny” at 6057/314. He has taken reps at both tackle and guard, but his best chance for pro success may be on the inside. With 31 ¾” arms, he relies on his size and girth to catch and then hold the pocket rather than extending his arms and securing it.

“I like the North corners as a group, but Desmond Trufant (Washington),
Jordan Poyer (Oregon State) and Jamar Taylor (Boise State) are the ones that stick out the most to me because of their athleticism, body quickness and ball skills. “ – AFC Director of Scouting

Some other players of interest in the Senior Bowl....

North squad: Margus Hunt, Michael Buchanon, Datone Jones, Alex Okafor, Mike Glennon

South Squad : Terrance Williams, Ryan Swope, DJ Fluker, Lane Johnson, Ezekial Ansah, John Jenkins, Landry Jones, Tyler Wilson

I can't wait to get a look at the CB's as well as T. Williams, Ryan Swope and Margus Hunt.

Love what I've seen of Fisher.

Been waiting for some analyst I respect to come up with a reason he won't be a terrific pro.

Still waiting...

Frankly, I think if Long left and we took Fisher at #12, he'd start at LT day one and Martin would go back to RT.

Short would be great. Kawaan is a big as the "fridge" and can dunk a basketball.

He provides not only disruption on running plays but pressure up the middle on the pass.

Truth
The report above on Fisher was by Phil Savage (I believe).

ChyrenB...

Are you advocating we take Short at 12 even with all our offensive needs. That would mean we let Starks walk correct?

He will be gone before we pick again.

No more high O-Line draft picks, PLEASE!! We need help on defense (CB, S, MLcool smiley and at skill positions (TE, WR).

It sucks that we spent so much on the o-line is the past and still don't have a good one but our ENTIRE future is riding on Ryan Tannehill. If we don't protect him in pass blocking and by improving our running game we have no shot of success.

Ireland incenuated he is in contract negotiations with Jake Long. Not sure how I feel about this since he has sucked for the last two years. I woul drather draft one high than sign him to a big contract that will be dead space in one or two years after he can no longer play.

We woul dbe better off making Ryan Clady the highest paid lineman....not that I want to do that.

RESPONSE: No, eesti. You know I want to pick Keenan Allen WR from Cal first.

Just explaining how he is a great pick.

Denard Robinson. He's going to be a project to turn into a WR, but he is a game changing player.

Disagree as you will but let me put my money on ...... defensive back.

You've got to be born with the hands. But at 6 feet, he's got the height to deal with tall receivers and he's got the speed.

Maybe in a few years of training, he could become a receiver but I'll bet right now, they put his butt at cb and he becomes so effective, he never leaves.

But that ain't saying that come the 3rd or 4th round, we don't snatch him up anyway.

In the SB Nation reviews they talk about him struggling fielding the ball even as a returner. Yeah they say they are trying him at receiver because of his separation skills but he is struggling at catching the ball.

Ted Ginn all over again. However, you don't need the same high level of ability to catch the ball at DBack. You just need to do what Sean Smith and the other guys we've had can't do, catch a ball that hits you right in the gut without any opposing player being within ten yards of you and not drop that interception.

DB's to watch at combine

Milliner(would have to be first pick)
Poyer(could jump into 1st)

Trufant(2 bro's in NFL)
Phillip Thomas
Shawn Williams
Matt Elam
Dave Amerson

Need to shore up OL somewhere 2-5 & FA, especially if Long is gone

Man Crush list.....

Tony Jefferson, FS: Play making safety from Oklahoma.

Terrance Williams, WR: NCAA leading WR. 97/1832/12 13 games! That's an NFL season (18.9 avg)

Tyler Eifert, TE: Only player to make plays vs Alabama in Championship.

Margus Hunt, DE: Estonian Underdog

I have a lot of respect for you Mark but you are oversimplifying Ginn's problem. Yes, he was fragile as far as taking hits were concerned but he also dropped passes.

That was the part of him I was talking about.

He used to take my breath away when he would simply out run his coverage and be butt naked running toward the endzone.

HE HAD BLOW AWAY SPEED! Still has it.

The pass would come in.

DAMMIT, THE PASS WOULD BE RIGHT ON TARGET!

HOO-RAY!!!!!

Then the ball would hit Ginn right in his hands and he would drop it.

Don't you remember those days????????????????????????????????????

His biggest problem was that he was soft. He couldn't get off press coverage. If there was any contact at all, he wouldn't catch the ball. It didn't matter if it was just some guy hitting his arm, he wouldn't make the catch. And if he was going to get tackled, he'd duck out of bounds, or go to the ground all on his own.

Agreed, Miami's fortunes depend on keeping RT healthy, and again, agreed that Miami has sucked throughout the Parcells/Ireland/Sparano regime with the amount they spent on OL and the poor results.

Yes, Ireland has been negotiation with Long and his agent for the last 5 months, but that is exactly what I would want him to do. Long is still a good LT, but regrettably, no longer an elite LT. Thus, he should be compensated as a "good" LT. I am guessing that because they have been negotiating as long as they have, that Ireland is just not willing to give Long the type of contract he is asking for. So, if that is the case, then just let Long walk. As I said in another post, there will be some team out there stupid enough to pay him top dollar. (Hopefully, for us, Long doesn't end up being All Pro and going to the Super Bowl). Gasp!

I think you are casting the facts in a light unduly favorable to your position.

You talk like there are no LAWS AGAINST interference.

That he was just bumped here and there in the middle of his route.

Or maybe different people remember different things.

I remember One time, one time, dammit, that he went out of bounds rather than take a hit BUT AS I REMEMBER, it was at the end of the game and we were behind and that move killed the clock.

We argued about it on this chatboard. I said I couldn't say whether it was cowardice or a strategic move.

And you say he "wouldn't" catch the ball. LOL. What, he simply intellectually "declined" to catch the ball.

No, he "couldn't" catch the ball.

Dammit the man probably drops half the kicks he receives as a 49ers. (exaggeration of course).

Yes, I remembered his faulty hands at least as much as his disinclination to risk injury.

I like the list. I'm just not a Margus Hunt fan...at least in the 1st round.

If I'm drafting a project DE I'd prefer Ansah.
