Missing on this kid playing college in the Phins back yard doesn't say much for their scouting

Happens every year to every team. Remember this is Mike Shanahan's system and look what he did with low round picks in Denver.

32 other teams also passed on Alfred Morris for over 5 rounds.

Morris was a 6th round pick. 31 front offices missed the kid.

eesti, these scouts get paid for finding such diamonds in the rough. One would think we have scouts looking at the local schools

Morris, TY Hilton, etc. But we did take 2 guys from Da U this year (Vernon and Miller), finally.

The fact is that you have NO IDEA what our scouts thought of Morris. None of us do.

But what you are forgetting is that we traded up to draft Lamar Miller in round 4. And there isn't a scouting department in the country that had Morris rated above miller who was widely considered as a late 1st/2nd round talent.

Maybe they really liked Morris, but once we took miller we weren't taking another RB. Heck, at that point we hadnt even drafted a WR yet and that was our biggest need.

Considering the addition of Miller, the selection of Thomas in round two the previous year and the fact that Reggie Bush was coming off a 1,000 yard season, and we could have had a higher grade on Morris than Washington did but we just weren't going to draft him. We had too many other needs.

True but this isn't the 70's and it isn't like all teams can't reach out to Florida schools.

Who's to say how good he would be anywhere else? Shanahan running scheme.
He did the same thing with Terrell Davis, Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson, Rueben Droughns, Tatem Bell

1,000 Yard Rushers During Mike Shanahan’s Tenure in Denver (Through 2006)

Mike Anderson – 2000, 2005 – 6th Round Draft Pick

Tatum Bell – 2006 – 2nd Round Draft Pick

Terrell Davis – 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 – 6th Round Draft Pick

Rueben Droughns – 2004 – Free Agent

Olandis Gary – 1999 – 4th Round Pick

And as of now we still haven't found a top RB, WR or TE for the future. I like Miller and hope he turns out like Spiller and not Travis Minor John Avery, Lorenzo booker busts!

Thomas doesn't look like a top back to date

We can't afford to screw this one up

Hindsight is always 20/20.

2 years from now you could be looking back going "wow...we got Matthews and Miller in the same draft?"

btw...I think Miller would have had a 1,000 yards if Reggie Bush wasn't on the team and he'd been the starter from day 1 like Morris was.

I hope so on Miller, we have never hit on RB in the draft. Brown was good for a few, but we passed on Rodgers who was a stud at Cal. Don't know why he dropped so far. Shows even the guru's aren't always right

Huh? Besides Ronnie Brown, what about Andre Franklin? Mercury Morris? Oh...and this guy called Larry Csonka?

We've NEVER hit on a RB in the draft? Dude...study your Phin history.

Montequi, Larry and Merc were in the 70's. Hardly the same regime of the last 10-20 years. Never could get an RB for marino, Jabbar was OK for a few

Miller has the best vision I have seen of our running backs in long time, and he knows how to make people miss.

Now if we could fix the QB problem
