Marcus Lattimore and the NFL Draft

Marcus Lattimore will be the steal of the draft, by far he is the best RB in the nation and knowing Lattimore he will fully rehab his right knee, he is truly worth a 2/3 rd pick because his upside is through the roof.

Except that RBs don't have nearly the impact they used to have in the NFL. If they did, then Minnesota would be on top of their division right now.

Lattimore is da bomb. I don't watch SEC football all the much, but every SC game I saw the last few years, I knew this guy was going to be a great pro. He was hurt pretty bad, though, not sure if he can recover fully from that. I'd take him in the 3d though (not higher than that).

Could have been. Two major injuries later, a major red flag. maybe worth a late round flyer

He'll be lucky to be drafted.

Its a shame. He was a stud prospect but having a MAJOR traumatic injury to each knee in successive years is going to be awfully hard to come back from.

I hope he makes it back like Willis Mcgahee did but I doubt he'll ever be the same player he was.

he'll be a high draft pick (2-4th round), like mcgahee

McGahee was a first round pick.

I hope you are right for Lattimore's sake, but barring a miracle comeback and off the charts workout, I wouldn't touch him in the first 4 rounds.

RB's aren't as highly valued as they were even 10 years ago. Its become a disposable position in the NFL.

mcgahee went in the first and was injured in January. I think it's reasonable to assume that Lattimore will get taken high (if not that high), he was injured earlier in the season. I think Michael Bush missed his entire Sr year at Lousiville and was still taken in the 2d round. Unless Lattimore isn't that caliber of RB (seems to me he is) there's no reason to think he won't be picked high. I bet he goes in rd 3 or 4 (taking into acct your point that RBs are not as valued as high as when McGahee and Bush were picked)

Frankly I'd rather roll the dice on someone like him in round 3 than a scrub like Egnew who wasn't even that good in college

All injuries are not created equal.

Bush for example, was a projected as a potential top 10 pick until he broke his leg as a senior and fell to the 4th round (not the 2nd).

And broken legs usually heal 100% and are often stronger where the break occurred. Once the leg is healed the player is usually every bit as good as before.

Shredded knees are rarely as strong as they were prior to the injury and are almost always more susceptible to re-injury. And Lattimore has had BOTH knees shredded in the last 14 months.

Its possible he comes all the way back. Its probable that he doesn't. That he loses some of the speed and agility that made him such a special prospect.

I hope he pulls it off. It would be an amazing story and someone will get a steal if he does. But like McGahee, he's not likely to work out for teams prior to the draft so its going to be hard for a team to invest a high pick in him after two such injuries.

you are right on bush, I remembered 2d round for some reason. I think the closest parallel is McGahee anyway. We shall see. Lattimore always really impressed me when I saw him play, so I'd be happy to take a flyer on him in the 3d.
