I never understood why we let Thomas go. It wasn't a contract thing, and he HAD shown a lot of potential. I have to think Sparano had a hand in it somehow. That guy wouldn't know a good O-Line if it smacked him in the face.

I never knew why they cut thomas either. I remember after his rookie year in which he started only 1 game before going on IR, some publication named him best rookie OL and raved that he was a big time steal. Then we cut him the next year for no good reason. I met Thomas's dad at a Miami Pats game in Foxboro when he was still on the phins, a really nice guy, I was always a D Thomas fan after that.

just more idiocy from the sporano era phins.

For all the scrub OLmen sparano brought from dallas????

YUP I agree he doesnt know squat about OLineman.....

And he isnt a very good Offensive coordinator either. Look at the mess the jets are in. He totaly screwed sanches life over there.

Sanches had potential a while ago in his career. thats all gone now. Notice this has been sanches worst year as a starter. that i remember. I dont think it can get any worse.

GM's don't often get rid of players their coaches want to keep. Thomas isn't here because Sporano gave up on him.

And before Crowder chimes in with some skewed version of how I'm trying to deflect blame from Ireland...

Yes the GM makes the final call. And yes, the GM will override the coach if there is a reason to (ie...financially).

But they never cut guys the staff is high on. Just look at the interaction between Philbin and Ireland in Hard Knocks this summer.

When the Davis trade fell into our laps, he discussed it with Philbin. He told Joe it was a strong offer but didn't pull the trigger until Joe didn't have a problem with it.

When it came time to cut guys like Gates, Hogan, Cunningham, etc. It came down to who Philbin thought he could win with. It always comes down to who the coach wants.

If Sparano had believed in Thomas he'd still be here. Although, to be fair, he was a project when he was drafted and his injuries certainly impacted his value to Sparano.
