The Niners suffered mainly from bad coaching. Mooch was a step down from Seifert, but still OK. But then for some reason the ownership hired Ericson then Nolan then Singletary. I'd rather have Wanny than those three.

The Niners drafted very well, but didn't have the coaching staff to fix the team. That is why last year, when they finally did hire a good coach, they surprised everyone.

Our problem is that the drafting has not been done nearly as well as SFs. This team has also been dipping in the draft for years. But the picks don't pan out. So when we do bring in a good coach (and by all appearance Philbin is a good coach) the team will still have a few years to get itself together.

Anyway, the best thing that can happen to this team is Ireland getting fired and replaced by a buddy of Philbin's.
