Agreed. It may also be a tribute to Cam's common sense. I think he realizes that he had a great year but he should not press it too far.
It appears that, as you say, Ireland did the same thing. Cam may have reasoned that the bottom line is that he is still a transfer from the Canadian Football League and although most would say that he has more than proven himself in the NFL, still, he may not have enjoyed the prospect of hitting the open market and may have had enough sense to know that he might be in more of a bargaining disadvantage than a bargaining advantage. Here he is without a doubt our MVP on defense.
Cam isn't a flashy guy, I hear he still drives his old acura from Canada. He wanted to be paid more then his 615 thousand he was scheduled to make, and get a decent bonus/guaranteed money... His money is all up to him, if he keeps playing like he has, he will make alot of money... No matter what, he got 20 million in guaranteed cash and secured himself and his family... good deal on both sides IMO.

Nah. We know better than that! This deal is all wake. Clearly he held out until we accepted his team friendly contract demands. If Ireland is so smart how come: long hasn't signed? Manning is in denver? Flynn is in Seattle? Fisher in st Louis trading RG3 to wash and not here? How come hartline, bush and Starks haven't been extended? We haven't signed our rookies yet? And why did we reach for a qb in the first round instead of trading down?

Assuming this is tongue in cheek, but if not ... some response IMHO.
Most of the items mentioned are
1. "non events in terms of things Ireland had much if any control over"
- Manning wanted Denver, more cap room, Elway connection etc,
- RG3 would have been an outlandish overpay and cost us depth this year (other needs, and leverage our future beyond recovery ... bottom line he wasn't worth what it would cost us to move up). Good call!
- Fisher same story as Manning, he had his preferences, doesn't mean Ireland is bad, Fisher even said so.
2. Some weren't best for Miami
- Flynn would have been an over pay, RG3 too much cost in picks
3. Hartline, Bush, Starks - More needs, but limited resources, the ones he extended had higher priority. Holding off on bush might turn out wise after seeing depth of Lamar. May resign for better price if lamar shows promise (leverage)
4. Signing our roiokies are a nit ... pretty much defined costs now with new rules, a matter pf priority to deal with Wake and others first. It will happen in plenty of time.
5. Reach for QB? Time will tell, but he seems pretty quick minded and the best quality QB given our drfat position that still allowed us to round out other needs. I don't share the opinion that we reached considering how it came out.

Yes Jim, that was tongue in cheek. Sorry for the confusion.
I'm not an Ireland hater. I'm not convinced he's going to be a great gm for us for the long term but I've seen enough that I like from him to want to give him his shot.
I was poking fun at the reactionary fans amongst us who have gone from wanting him tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail a month ago because wake skipped a voluntary workout to singing his praises for signing him to a team friendly deal now.
