This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
This comes from a solid source, who got to spend a little time with the greatest Qb, our team has ever had, when he bumped into him and long time back up Qb of the team hanging out together having some fun. They BS for a while and got to talking about the team and organization. This happened about a week or so before the draft.
When asked about what he thought of Ross as an owner. The Qb said, he doesnt like him, "he has no business owning an NFl team". He should have bought a nightclub". When asked about Philbin, he was not so sold on him, he said his biggest concern, he has never been a HC at any level really, so he isnt so sure about the move. When asked about Jeff Ireland, he said he liked Ireland...He gave Ireland the most praise of anybody in the organization. When asked about Tannehill, he wasnt sold on him either... He didnt crush him, but he wasnt singing his praise either....
Take it for what its worth, but thought it was interesting behind the scenes insight... Not what you might hear the same guy say publicly... but he obviously wasnt too concerned about trying to hide his feeling about it, either.
Maybe he was just in a bad mood and hating on the orgnanization that day after a few... who knows...

To be honest, I am not expecting RT to be another Marino. If he turns out to be another Griese (with a better arm) then I will br satisified.
It's odd that Dan would say the things he said (if true). With Ross, he is still learning and he has the money. He just has to stop putting his foot in his mouth and let his football guys handle that side of the operation, with Ross putting his 2 cents worth behind the scenes.
As for Philbin, that is a wait-and-see. I wasn't too keen on any of the coach's that were interviewing for the Miami job (except Fisher, and even that one was a little iffy). Philbin has no NFL head coaching experience - that's a fact! He also didn't even call the plays while in GB, although he did help put the game plan together. So far, it seems as tho Philbin is doing a good job with the guys out there on the field, but let's see what happens during the season.
As for Ireland, again, it's a wait-and-see situation. He has only had 2 years running the operation on his own, so we will have to see what happens with his picks and FAing.
RT also has to be given time. He has all the tools, now he just has to learn the pro game and get some real experience. He knows the majority of the plays, so that is a plus. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he starts somewhere during the season.
Solid source whatever sounds like a bunch of bs to me. Ross is the owner and that's not gonna change anytime soon. Ireland has seemed to kick the ghost of Parcells out and is making some good personal decisions. Tannehill will be neither Griese or Marino. I hope he is just Steve Tannehill winning qb. Tired of all the fan bitching about the org.
Everyone hates you when you lose. Just the way of the world. Win and they will all be genius'.
I haven't seen anyone say RT is gonna be the next Marino.
He has a different game for one and runs a 4.6 40. Marino ran a 4.6 20.
Marino will always be my favorite player but he's not a coach or personnel guy so while I respect his opinion, it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Just bc you can play doesn't make you an expert on all things football.
Too bad they don't have stats on how fast a pass travels.
Marino always amazed me in several areas:
1. The quick release - everyone noticed
2. Ability to side step inside the pocket & still get a pass off
3. Not sure if it was to better assess the reads , but he also seemed to totally blow off the even feigned or slightest effort at making a handoff run fake or diguising play action for the pass.
- I think this is one of Peyton Mannings really strong suits.
- Marino seemed to totally see it as a waste of effort
Well to be fair, except for maybe two or three seasons during Marino's career, any attempt at a fake handoff was going to be followed by the opposing defense collapsing in hysterics. "Really? You expect us to believe you have some sort of running game over there? Are you SERIOUS??"
(OK, that's an exaggeration. But not much of one.)
Everytime I click on this thread, that REO Speedwagon song starts playing in my head "heard it from a friend who.....heard it from a friend who, heard it from another"

You are not expecting RT to be like one HOF QB, you'd be happy if he was like another HOF QB, as long as he has a better arm.
Man no pressure or anything on this kid!

Marino had 287 knee operations. He couldn't bend or swivel enough to make a PA fake. lol
Probably more truth to that than you know.
I watched last night on NFL Net (Top 10 QB's of the 80's) how before Marino no one ever said anything about quick release. It was invented to describe him. It truly was amazing.
Crowder everything you “reported” sounds reasonable and I don’t see ANY issue with it whatsoever.
Ross has played the role of clown too often. Thill is an unproven commodity. The big concern with Philbin is the fact he’s never been a HC. And Ireland has been the most “steady” aspect in the franchise for the last number of years.
So really, there’s ZERO in that mix that’s either controversial or not rather obvious to a casual fan. So I would tell your “source” to go back and get some freaking info worth reporting!
Philbin, has not only no, NFL HC experience, he has never been a HC in college or High school... Something you dont hear widely reported, I didnt realize that fact until, the QB mentioned it to a friend of mine... As far as questioning my source or information, it is up to who ever wants to believe it, i could care less. Some one i trust had a direct conversation with the QB and Huard... I had heard differently, how this guy felt about the organization. THought it was interesting... Everybody has an opinion on it... I hear alot of stuff, sometimes I pass it on, sometimes I dont... if u want to believe it is BS, more power to you...
Also this guy was once asked to be the head or oversee all of our football operations for the franchise. He was also a QB... He is also an analyst... He isnt a casual fan or avg ex player making comments.... The comments hold a little more weight with me, but we all see thing through different shades of glass.. to each their own.

What I remember about Marino is that when he was passing, he was beautiful to watch. Just so smooth. I also enjoyed when Ricky Williams broke through the line and just took off down the field.

Didn't much matter to Dan. He knew the defense was keying on him but could do nothing to stop him. He loved it when they blitzed. He would just kill them.

What I was trying to say is there will never be another Marino. Griese was a very good QB, but no Marino. Griese was a true field general. If he had the arm that Dan had, fugetaboutit! (sp?)
I was just saying if he could even come close to Griese, by being RT, that would say alot about this guy and where this team would be.
From what I have seen and heard about RT, if he performs the way he is expected to, we will all be happy and the Fins will no longer be QB hunting.

Treasure that is a valid point... Wayne and Dan are still very tight... Dan was and is a big fan of Wayne and how he conducted himself and treated players past and present..

I'll be happy if RT turns out to be just another Chad Pennington minus the injuries. Or another David Woodley without the incompletions or the interceptions.
As for Marino..if he turns out to be that good we'll all be singing hymns.
Ireland has done a good job once out from under Parcells.
And Philbin was always the best choice we could have made as a new coach this year.
As for RT, I really wanted Flynn...but as some of you may remember I also wanted us to draft RT at #8 even if we signed Flynn. Luck was simply never an option, and RGIII once it became apparent he would win the Heisman he was not an optio either. RT was the best potion for us in the draft. Glad we got him, the kid has ALL of the tools.

Wasn't it still Wayne's World when Dan was forced out?
Dolph- Dan was done medically, I dont think he was forced out, like Shula was questionably forced out... I know Dan is tight with Wayne. At Waynes private club, Dan was always around, even had a joke urinal with his plaque on it in the mens locker room.... There is defintely no hard feelings between Wayne and Dan. They are tight...

I have a hard time believing "Earl Morrall" said that !
