Ireland told him he had potential but was too up and down and had faith he'd put it together and succeed. That's pretty positive, and also the truth. Tells him what he needs to improve. I'd have wanted to hear exactly that.

The reason you are leaving the team, shouldn't dictate your willingness to accept constructive criticism. And before you suggest that because he was now a Colt so it wasn't Ireland job to do that anymore, remember this. Ireland still had a personal relationship with Davis. He cared enough about Vontae to say what he did.
Well you anticipated the point that it's really none of his business since Vontae was a Colt and it is likely to backfire.
But where can I find evidence of this great PERSONAL relationship Ireland had with Vontae? I think it's a creation of the people on the board who objected to my criticism. Yes, Ireland drafted him first but he drafted others first.
Is there a GREAT PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP between Ireland and Pouncey??????
I don't think so.
Yes, he talked to him like a father.
But the message being conveyed is that Vontae underperformed.
That may be true.
However, had Indianapolis never made that phone call, Vontae would still be on our team and starting.
So, he wasn't bad enough to cut.
Now, am I denying there were "good intentions"???? No. But, absence evidence of this close "PERSONAL" RELATIONSHIP, it was unwise.

There's a real good chance this could be one of the top picks in the 2nd rnd, the difference of what pick we drafted him with and we got for him in return could turn out to be very minor.
How about this. based on statistics of Ireland and 2nd picks, I can almost assure you, that whoever we draft with that pick will not be half the player Vontae Davis was for us...he was our number 1 cb for 3 years and only 25 years old...
