how do you define successful? if it's making the playoffs, I saw screw barkley. if it's winning 3-4 games, i say suck big time and get the #1 pick.
but I can't go into the season hoping we lose! check back with me if we are 0-7.
Wow, you must be dragging pretty low to be here even befor the draft.
Reasonably request last year when we were at 0-7, but I cant go there now.
Reasonable successful se3ason sounds like just over 500 but certainly not deep into the playoffs:
- Its like asking if you want to kiss a really ugly chick or kiss your sister, neither one is an answer we can get behind.
I want to see us kick ass, with a successful draft and a new coaching scheme that takes off better than the moaners in miami think can happen.
I'm good with that and hopeful that the draft is stellar. That said; if we whiff on it all and go out 0-7 ... repost this and I'll give it some thought, as I'm whining over the spilled milk of the season.
I want us to be as successful as we can.. I am hoping Philbin, can pull a Harbaugh, and turn around a team in year with not much roster improvment.. We are Dolfans, we hope for the best and are gluttons for punishment.... Step right up and enjoy the show...lol

You are only allowed to take that position once, every ten years at the most , you are not allowed to say we should lose all the games in back to back years... Choose again Dolfan1, dont break the rules.....
1. We structure contracts for performance every other year.
2. Suck and get the top draft pick year 1, win SB year 2 , then stand down and suck again for the top pick again year 3, then win SB again in year 4 ...?
Well we almost had that going for a while but didn't quite follow thru with itfollow thru:
1. Went 1-16, drafted jake Long with 1st pick
2. Won the Division next year
3. Sucked again the next year, but rallied to finish too high
4. Started 0-7, on a roll for top pick, but we rallied again
We just need a little discipline to stick with the plan?

Although I disagree with you on a theoretical level, we ended up saying the same thing on the practical level.
I say always play every season to win as many games as you can regardless of who is in the draft.
But ultimately, as an afterthought, if I'm sitting up looking at 3-13 at the end of the season, I am sure that I would rather be looking a 1-15 (can't let the Dolphins be have a winless season for reasons stated in other threads long ago).
But the problem that most people like SamSam, the author of this Thread, have is that one can never predict the future and one cannot rely on the future to play out like you EXPECT.
For example, you hope all season LONG to have a sucky season and the number one draft choice, you have that sucky season and go 1-15 and then Matt Barkley suffers a career-ending injury playing in the Rose Bowl or decides that to sign a Major League Baseball contract (not saying he plays baseball but just as a "fer instance.".
I'd like the team to be successful because I think that bringing the WCO to this team is something that will be very good in the long run, and I definitely do not want Joe Philbin to be another Cam Cameron. But anything less than 9-7 and I'm all in on Blow for Barkley.

Based on what I have read about him for analysis, I would agree. The common theme for Weeden is that his mobility and throwing on the run are weaknesses. That is definitely not a fit for the WCO.

this is dolfan1 we're talking about. He's said that for about 5 years in a row at least.

about dolfan1....
I sick because i agree with him this year....I have disagreed with him every other single time...But this year is a waste...
You all know perfectly what i mean.
Who are we going to beat even if we are lucky and make playoffs by a miracle of god.......with a qb like gerard...or matt more.
The defense has hole pass rusher and safety...
Come on guys isnt it better to sacrifice a season or hope to lose every single game......((((((Because thats what i want..yup call me a nut.)))))) So that we can draft a qb in the first round with the first pick.?
Remember this guys and you all know this already....Many here say it and i agree..
Without a superstar QB we are never going to win a superbowl.

So, now there are 4 people here voting for the Phins to suck hard for another season to get a better draft position. After one unsuccessful campaign of "suck for Luck" some of the same people now want "their team" to throw away another season and no doubt will be rooting for "their team" to lose every game they play, with no guarantees.
Now, I'm sure that these same people still consider themselves true Dolphin fans but I notice that some of these same people are quick to criticize Dolfan1 for simply stating the obvious, that NE has a better organization, more consistency at the QB position and better continuity among the coaching staff while we, The Dolphins, change QBs and head coaches more often than a woman changes her mind.
Maybe I'm missing something.

The only difference between dolfan1 and the rest of us is that he has been negative about the phins even when we had a better team.
I do not remember way back but i bet he was negative about the phins even when marino was here.

Simple -- fight for a winning season! I've had enough of the losing. A 10-win season or better is what I am looking for.
The players won't tank it for the #1 pick in the next draft; they already proved that this past season. Too much pride.
Why are you (and some others) so enamored with Barkley? He isn't even close to Luck in talent. Granted, he will (probably) be the #1 pick, but that won't be because he was the best player on the board.
Right now, I am (sorta) agreeing with you about having scrubs in the QB position, but Moore, I believe, can lead the Fins to a winning season, but he is not a Super Bowl QB. Garrard? He shouldn't even be in the league, anymore.

I agree About moore thats what am afraid of. He might be good enough to have a winning season and have the phins pick in the 15th range in the 1st. But still not good enough to make it past the 1st round of the playoffs. ((((((((((Like its been forever))))))
About gerard...I agree he shouldnt be in the league anymore especially at his age and coming back from his injury.
If he didnt had the injury id give him 1 or 2 years but with the injury he is done.
Nobody wanted to qb the phins except and old over the hill injured wreck with no other choice gerard. Just to collect a paycheck. I dont blame him though i would do it too.
Wouldnt you just love to sit in a bench and collect a million dollars at the end of the year?
Even if its league minimun what is it about 300 grand a year?
Most i got paid in my lifetime a couple of years in a row...Selling trucks was about 195 grand each year. Clean after taxes. And that was good enough to completely pay my house my car and my wifes car. DONE.And still have some dough left for extra curricular activities.
And that was busting my butt working overtime until 8 oclock at night none stop.
Some people have it too easy im telling you.
But these guys are used to spending money like water. didnt alex fernandez use to spend like 50 grand a month for rent of his luxury appartment or something like that?
