Unfortunately, the Patriots are not going away. Reality is that their defense did get better as the year wore on, and that does not bode well. They have over $20M in cap space, and we only have about $8M to play with. And they have two first round picks and two second round picks.

Very true Mark.
Not too mention that they have a QB...and we don't.

How do they keep getting so many frigging draft picks!!?

Because Belechick is SMART.
They target specific players early in the draft and if that guy isn't there they trade down.
They know there really isn't much difference talent wise between the players picked at #9 and #49...unless of course you are looking for a QB...which they aren't.

meh. he is too smart for his own good. he passess on players like clay matthews to trade down and down again when what he should be doing is packaging all those picks to trade UP once and awhile for an impact player during his SB window with brady
As it turns out that was critical unless my memory and math is wrong. Had that safety NOT been called, takeaway two points from the Giants and with 52 seconds left, then Tom Brady is trying for field goal range instead of the Hail Mary (which came uncomfortably close).

Come on. Let's be honest. People on this board are willing to RIGHT NOW take 1) a Matt Flynn who has, count them, one good game in all of his NFL career and 2) a Peyton Manning who is probably as damaged goods as there can be. Plus we have a Brandon Marshall that has dropped SEVEN touchdown passes this year.
Are you telling me that you wouldn't rather have Brady and Welker on the Dolphins next year if you could?
Hey! I hate the Patriots. But I'm honest. Brady is a great quarterback. The fact that he made a nail biter out of what should have been lights out with 52 seconds left on the scoreboard....how can anyone say he choked?
He didn't choke, but the team sure did... so many dropped passes and such a poor job tackling all game long. It looked like the Dolphins out there! But still, the game was enjoyable to watch and the miracle comeback just missed. Congrats to the Giants on a well played Super Bowl.

That's another way to look at it.
But he knows he has Brady. Having that HOF QB is everything in this league. It allows him to take a shotgun approach to drafting instead of a single shot theory by trading up.

If the price was right, yes. But Welker more than Brady, honestly. I don't particularly care for whiny QBs in their mid 30s. The guy couldn't even admit that he was at fault for the intentional grounding call. That's pathetic.

I agree, it wasn't a choke performance by Brady. He threw the ball well overall.
Not to mention that the players they have on thier roster are worth, and they get, draft picks when they get rid of them because the team is winning...

and this is the sum total of patsfan1's contribution today. somehow I think if the pats won we'd have gotten many many posts and threads from him about how we need to be more like the pats, and we'll never win anything while brady and bellicheat are there so I'll just ride my bike next 10 years instead of watching the phins lose

No I am confident with the new coach choice, and maybe we see Flynn there next season
I know that's the majority of his passes Jsm08 but damn, did he win all those games all those years with the overwhelming majority of the passes being that short?
