well IF he's healthy then he's better than all of those.
assuming he is healthy, signing him only makes sense if this team is a SB contender except for the QB spot. I tend to doubt it but I guess there's always hope. If he's not healthy then don't bother.

What is the significant difference between a 36 year old Peyton Manning and a 37 year old Joe Montana?

Payton was playing at a higher level than Montana his last year with SF

If the Colts are willing to part with Peyton Manning, as great as he is, compare his playoff statistics and SB wins, then there is truly something wrong with him BECAUSE if there was a Steve Young sitting behind this Joe Montana, I could see it, Even if there was a Phil Rivers behind this Drew Brees, I could see it, but as Great as Luck is heralded as being, unless they had another veteran they are bringing in, I would be very very leery and skeptical that they would give him up even for such a heralded "can't miss." I'm no doctor but someone on this board pointed out that there IS NO coming back from the type of surgery undergone by Peyton.

It would be just like us to fall for a sucker deal.

It might be a stupid move, but I'd fall for it...hook, line, and sinker.

I agree. The whole subject is literally fools gold IMO, and reiterates the compulsive disorder we’ve developed to get the vaunted “franchise coitusback.” Like they say in Jamaica, grow your own weed and that means plant some seeds – and it would be helpful if we drafted a potential coitusback more than once every 7 to 10 years.

I’m still a proud Miami Dolphin fan and I’m not going to defile myself in order to watch a train wreck and call it “a legitimate opportunity” for this franchise to return to the glory years.

Put a freaking cork in it and give the fans a legit reason to believe by conducting your affairs professionally and with regard for this franchises history – including the recent history of neglecting the most important position on the team. But DON’T INSULT US by trying one ill-advised majik act and gluing a new neck on Peyton, or selling out the next 2 or 3 drafts on one college prospect.

If you idiots would have been handling things correctly we wouldn’t be in this position! Don’t think you can kiss and make up with one old dog that has a broken neck with no bark left. Get freaking real. Or get out of town.

My opinion of course.

Really?

====================================

(1990 Season)

Montana's QB rating his last full season @ SF: 89.0

He made it all the way to the NFC Championship game, the 49ers were on the verge of a 3-peat SB run. But Montana was injured in the last quarter and the Giants eked out a 15-13 victory. The Giants went on to win SB XXV

====================================
(2010 Season)

Manning's QB rating his last full season @ Indy: 91.9

The Colts didn't get past the Wildcard round. They were eliminated by the Jets, who lost the AFC Championship to the Steelers, who lost SB XLV to the Packers.

====================================

The 2.9 point difference in QB rating is insignificant compared to the 20 year period of changes to the game rules. Those rule changes were designed to make the NFL more QB friendly than in Montana's day.

According to ESPN, if the salary cap stays at $120M, we only have about $6M in cap space. So, how would we afford Peyton Manning? That $6M doesn't factor in re-signing Langford or Soliai. We would have to do lots of cutting and restructuring to be able to fit in Manning. Lots. That's why I don't buy this for a minute.

I can't imagine Peyton Manning playing on another team. He's a Colt. If he's playable he'll stay. If not, he'll retire and we'll see him on ESPN CBS, or Fox.

BTW-Peyton is a better QB than Eli.

If Peyton did happen.......You can bet after a Lineman to protect him, Our second round Pick would a be a QB for him to groom. I'd rather see a move to grab RGIII but this isn't a bad Option if he is deemed healthy.

And don't forget he gets a Ton of respect with him. Defenses look at him wrong with that Neck condition they will be fined and Penilized. Its a nice edge to have on offense if he's healthy .

If Eli wins this Superbowel....Eli will be the best Manning.

Peyton may have stats but he isn't clutch. He doesn't even have a winning record in the playoffs.

Dan Marino has a losing playoff record. Does that mean he was not clutch?

Not talking about Marino. Talking about Peyton and Eli.

In their Prime, in 2 min drill, down by 7 , I'd take Peyton everyday of the week. 24-7. But Eli is no slouch.

Eli is starting to come into his own now. At this point of his career, he is playing as good as any QB in the league.
