I just don't get it. Why are the Dolphins so much in a hurry to make such an important decision? There are still 4 good teams left in contention, one of which will win this year's Super Bowl. Can it really be true that there isn't even one coach among these four teams that isn't worth even an interview? Pete Carmichael, author of one of the most prolific offenses in NFL history, isn't worth even an interview? I think Ross is making a mistake in letting himself be chivvied along to make a decision RIGHT NOW by the so-called pundits and media types, and yes, some fans. IMHO, he ought to take his time, conduct a complete search, and then make a well-considered decision. This decision will the determine the fortunes of the Dolphins over the next few years, and maybe beyond that. I think too many corners are being cut for the sake of speed. Alacrity may be important in this instance, but a good hire is the most important thing. The media won't like it because they want the story NOW, but I think a more measured approach would be best for this franchise.
Because if you don't stike when the iron is hot you run the very real risk of the guys you really want signing with other teams. Then where are you? Scraping the bottom of the barrel.
I agree though that Carmichael deserved an interview at least and I think Moss did as well...what we don't know however is if we contacted them and they declined to be interviewed.
So, apparently both of you gentleman believe that there are no other coaching prospects that should be interviewed- no coaches on any of the top four teams in the league this year, who can't be interviewed by anybody until their season is over, no other coaches from the other playoff teams? Curious. There are 3 or 4 other teams who will fill their head coaching vacancies from someplace other than the 3 "finalists" that have been identified by this FO. Are you now saying that our front office is better than all the others who need a head coach, and won't get him from our "finalists"? Even if I believed that I would still want them to explore all the possibilities. I don't want them to settle for what they can get now, I want them to talk to all qualified candidates and then hire the BEST. This "hire somebody and let's get on with it!" mentality is, I believe, shortsighted and misguided.
