I can't remember which famous coach did not believe in passing but in the early days before the forward pass was firmly and unquestionably established as a viable football play, a famous coach said, "When you pass, three things can happen and two of them are bad."
Well, since they moved the kick-off line, I hate to see idiots trying to make a return (although Ginn has managed this year to run 2 kickoffs for TDs in one game).
Again three things that can happen and two of them are bad.
1) The runner can get tackled without reaching the 15 yard line which is happening a lot this year and is a bad thing.
2) The runner can advance the ball pass the 20 yard line but at the time the team can suffer the all-too frequent holding penalty committed prior to the runner reaching the 20 which will bring the ball back under the 15 or whereever.
3) The runner can make a significant advance of the ball past the 20 yard line.
On the whole, given the new kick-off spot, I don't think its worth it. I don't want to see us do anything but kneel down on those kickoffs now.
Funny thing about the new kickoff rule is that MORE returns for TDs are happening. Even though I agree overall, I'd rather take a knee than risk a fumble, injury, penalty, or a very short return.
