with very little to talk about I thought I'd revisit the VY question with a poll. I think we should do it, no question. VY has the potential to be a star QB, and will come basically free. He also adds a different element to the offense. He's a mental risk but I think one worth taking, especially with little else out there.

no way. he's inaccurate, can't read a D and is a complete mental case. Not worth it at any price. If he were going to be a star he would have been one by now. His physical tools aren't enough to overcome the rest of his limitations.

I think you make a list of possible Qb's you can add to the roster and Vince Young should be on the list. I would rather pay Vince Young then Tyler Thigpen. SO unless you have someone better then Young, who we can sign instead, then I think it is a no brainer, you sign Vince Young if the price is right. What options do we have?

ha could be said for both i suppose

i'd take Palmer if we could get him for a 4th or higher and draft someone next year.

I'm a Yes. I could see him running the wildcat. He's been a winner his entire career and appears to have an intangible quality essential to that. He seems to know his limitations. Of course, someone would have to determine if his heads screwed on straight first.

You have to know EXACTLY what your going to get from the person. You can't guess about work ethic, competitiveness, intelligence, accountability, dependability. - Jeff Ireland on adding a fa qb.

Sounds like that eliminates VY.

Guys, Palmer for a third or fourth is a bit unrealistic IMO. I bet just about every team that doesnt have one of the top ten Qb's would trade for Palmer for that cost.
For perspective, Rumor has it a few years back, the Bengals owner, turned down 2 first rd picks for Chad Johnson. You think he will let Palmer go for a 3 or 4. Never gonna happen. I would be surprised if he let Palmer go for even a single 1st rd pick. But if Palmer is traded, I doubt you see it for less then a 1st. Maybe 2 seconds..But i doubt it.

the only QB I am ok with giving up a 3d rounder for is Orton. Nothing more for anyone. We need all of our picks next year if we want to have a chance to trade up for a big time QB (not just luck)

Berk- My guess is Orton is a second or the Broncos keep him, Tebow is not ready or a lock enough at this point, to think Orton is worth only a 3rd to the broncos.

It seems the only way Palmer will get moved is if another player is involved in the trade IMO. Becasue what THE Bengals are going to want in picks will never be offered.

I got ya, I read a couple of comments about it, and was responding to the idea in general not picking on your comments. I understand your statment was how you valued him for our team. That is the problem with Palmers predicament, his value to other teams, his perceived value by his owner and his value of himself... I hope we dont see him go down like Barry Sanders, but it sure looks like things are aligning in that direction at this point.

If I were Den I wouldn't let Orton go for less than a 2d. Elway supposedly isn't sold on Tebow so I doubt they deal him. I am sure Palmer isn't getting traded, for the reasons you guys mentioned

Whoever we sign, it needs to be somebody that will push Henne. It need to be a legitimate QB competition.

With that being said, ask yourselves the question...

Can Vince Young push Henne?

with his head on right, vince young blows henne away. it's a 50-50 proposition but he's the only available QB (available for free anyway) you can say that about

Over 900 of Young's rushing yards came in 2006-2007, so running is much less a part of his game now. And, he's fumbled 21 times on 264 career rushing attempts. So, there'd be considerable debate over whether or not the value added in rushing is offset by the fumbles. In 54 career games, Young has a combined 80 interceptions and fumbles. That's 1.5 per game. You also have to look at Young versus Henne at comparable points in their careers. Through his first 3 years, Young's passer rating was below 70, his yards per attempt was 6.4, and he had 22 passing TD and 32 INT.
