I think this is a sore and losing subject for the NFLPA. THe fans dont want the draft messed with. THe rookies who are invited dont want it messed with. Only the elites of the NFLPA want to stop the rookies from shaking hands with the Commisioner, everybody else wants it to take place. WHat do you guys think? I think the NFLPA are meeting now, to change their stance on the matter, because it is bad PR for them to look so divisive and obstructive as to prevent the draft day experience for rookies.

I agree that everything done on both sides is PR, but I do not get what exactly is a non issue?

its all passive agressive BS with plausible deniability, the NFLPA management and representation is a farce IMO.

To the extent that they did not reverse themselves, and, that's a separate issue that not fascinating to discuss (like PhinFans2 says if we look at that, it is a non-issue.)

But what if they had stuck to their original position (particularly, if they were saying rookies should make themselves available for draft day but just not make a big deal out of it), I would agree that that's a pretty shi_ty position. This is the biggest day of the lives of these kids. It won't happen again. It was and remained the biggest day in the life of Ryan Leaf (really, no joke intended) because some of these guys never make it afterwards.

Having the labor dispute not settled is sucky, raining on the draft day for these kids is even more sucky.

the NFLPA had their meeting yesterday, monday to have a final decision of whether or not to have a competing event in NYC down the street from Radio City. The saga was still in play within the NFLPA inner management, until last night.

I'm fascinated. What kind of competing event? Is the Union going to conduct a mock draft and send the players to the teams they would want to?

Are do you mean that they are just going to have an event to compete with the draft for publicity?

If so, then that would become a joke that would put them in a worse light than doing nothing at all.

I'm puzzled.

the NFLPA pushed it as far as they could until unanimous popular opinion was in against their actions, then they bow out and act like they never did it.... same old song and dance, can you see the problem the owners might be having negotiating with a rag tag group who act like this....
