Why not an extended draft?

I recall seeing that teams could not sign free agent college players beyond the ones they draft. Why not have a draft of 15-20 rounds this year?

Don't think they can sign the ones they draft either.

THIS should be and interesting draft.

"Woohoo!! We got the guy we wanted! ... I mean, I HOPE we did. Hope we can sign him. Uhh..heck..there probably won't be a contract which means the entire draft will be nullified. CRAP!!!"

I see a lot of that.

This brings up another good point. Carolina will not be awarded the same luxury most teams with 1st pick in the draft are awarded. That is the right of the team with the first pick to negotiate with its possible drafts pick before the draft. So they have an idea of how much each guy wants and how hard it is going to be to sign them if they choose that player. That is a big deal IMO. Sucks for Carolina

Didn't the draft used to go like 15 rounds or something?

The deal will get signed. I am not worried about that.

Nick Buoniconti was a 13th round pick.

There were fewer teams back then, though. So, he wouldn't have been a 13th rounder today.

13th rounder back then would be like a 3rd or 4th today.
