Seems to have similar charcteristics, great athletes strong arms, but not great passers. He also has really only 1 year of competition at a high level. Could be a diamond in the right program like Rodgers getting 2-3 years under a veteran, not our situation unless we sign an FA QB. Bulger or Volek might be worth a look

"Haven't we wasted enough second round picks on project QB's this decade (Henne, White, Beck, Culpepper, Feeley)?? "
I feel youre pain, We haven't done well since Marino left. Brady, Romo, are not bad late round picks, but most were high picks. If we are willing to spend on FA WR, RB, and OL go after a QB, but we can't reach
Who really knows who the top 3 QB's will be in this draft.
I ONLY agree with trading down if CAM NEWTON is already off the board.
-Remember when JJ phucked us up by trading our selection because certainly the #1WR would be off the board by 18th , but he was and we missed RANDY MOSS.
If I'm the GM I am looking at Mallett at #15...if he's not there I take Julio Jones if he's there...if they are both gone then I take Locker or Newton as a consolation prize.
For our team I see more value at taking a big, fast WR in the first round than I do in taking a QB...unless that is, a gem falls to us.
I'd be really happy his year with us getting Jones (assuming he falls to us) in the first and Kappernick in the third. Or with trading some picks, moving up into the second and still getting Kappernick.
I didn't mention Gabbert because I don't think there is a snowball's chance in Heck that he's there at 15.
Ingram I also don't take, even if he's available ay 15.

Julio Jones first choice if available at 15 then Ryan Mallett if Jones isn't there. If neither are available, trade down and work on the OL.
I wouldn't touch Newton in the first round. Too many unknowns and too little exposure.
I also wouldn't pick a RB (Ingram) in the 1st. Shelf life isn't long enough to justify the high draft price. Lots of serviceable RB's available in the later rounds if you want to draft one but that need can easily be addressed with free agency.

Okay Phinsfan, are we starting to get on the same page here? I think we have one more issue to agree on. Don't sell the farm to trade up and grab a QB. Build the team so we have the depth in the next year or two so we can trade up without selling the farm.
What do you think about the new OC and Henne's approach?

RE: A&O, the entire premise is that these players are there when we pick...if they are not then our discussion of thier selection is moot.

I think if we can convince Denver to trade their seconds we do this. A lot of talk has all QB's except Gabbert and Newton falling to the second with some going high to Buffalo and Cincy. but if we are taking a QB expect it might ne Ponder, Dalton, or Kaepernick
We could take a QB then best avail WR, OL & RB 2-4, or a potentiasl defensive freak like a Dontay Moch, Don't be surprised if the Pats land him.
