I met Don Shula yesterday
Posted by: ChambersDeepBall ()

He was in town for the opening of Shula's 347 steak house.

I asked him about Henne. He said he thought he could be the man, just needs to get more consistent. I asked him about Sparano, he said they didn't like the way management handled the coaching situation.

All in all it was about a 3 minute conversation. I shook hands with GOD!

I met him at the airport and asked a question. I got the "glare" as they were getting ready to board the charter for an away game. 70s.

I brought up the fact that I was a dolfan ever since I was a kid and starting watching football Marino's rookie year (I was 7). He said, 'you starting watching dolphins football during a very exciting time'. However, he didn't mention Marino specifically. There were no pics of Marino / Griese in the restaurant either.

He came across as very down to earth; however, he kind of cut me short with the OK lets stop the conversation hand shake. I was about to ask him if he knew Larry Beightol (on former NFL oline coach - jets, falcons, bucs, packers, dolphins) and a friend of my family. I should have led off with that question

He's dealt with so many fans over so many years, I don't blame him for cutting people short. The guy just wants to live his life and not be bombarded with questions from the past. Also, if I was him, I'd be bitter about the Phins. He put his heart and soul in to the team. He was, basically, forced out by Huizenga and he's seen the organization crumble since he left. If he was Parcells, he'd just say "good riddance" and gloat that they never should have gotten rid of him. But Shula has more class than that, and he has a real loyalty to Miami. I bet he hates to see what's going on right now.

I agree. Mike and Dave were there too, but I didn't talk to them. Shula = class act

I don't freaking remember. Probably some dumb question an over excited young ass know-it-all would ask. I'll tell you this though, after the "glare" I was much more careful.smiling bouncing smiley

When a celebrity is doing a meet and greet type of appearance like the steakhouse, they are normally much friendlier then if you met them on their own time. Essentially they are getting paid in one way or another to be nice and meet and interact with fans... Very Cool oppurtunity, like you, SHula is a huge part of my childhood... I thought I was cool when I bought a signed SHula HOF 97 Football and picture from enshrinement and his little coaching book, last month...

It's great you met Don, but the dude is just a man. Nothing more.

I was so happy when Biggie got killed. I was in college and thought, well no more shit music from that guy. Then everyone started playing it more because he got killed. No one really liked Tupac

I think when we're talking about being happy when a rapper gets killed, in a thread about Don Shula, it's time to close the discussion.

I mean, I'm as guilty as anyone for steering convo off topic, but dancing on someone's grave--it's time to move on.
