Reports are that Miami and Richie are way far apart on money for a new deal and that talks on a new contract have stalled. This leaves even more of a problem with the mess that is our interior o-line.
Not really. Incognito was hardly good at LG. And he graded out very poorly in his 2 games at Center. He'd been a RG his whole pro career. And RG is the easiest position to play on the line. The RG doesn't have to pull much, and rarely gets matched up with a strong pass rusher. He was forced to play LG for us because Jerry was such a disappointment. The only scenario for bringing Incognito back that makes sense is to bring him back to be the RG, the position he is most comfortable at. I supposed he could be brought back to challenge Berger at center, but it's not a slam dunk he would beat him out.

The key is the amount, of course. We've dumped a TON of money on our O-Line in the last few years (Long, Carey, Smiley, Grove), and some of that hasn't worked out the best. Too bad Parcells fired Hudson Houck. He could do miracles with very little talent. I'd love to see what he could have done with Jake Long!!

Not for him as an individual, but for our O-Line with a talent like him. Houck never had a talent anywhere near him when he was here.
Our interior OL was so bad, I couldn't really tell who was better or worse relative to the others. I've read conflicting reports about them by folks who are supposed to know more than me.
However, not a single one of them was good relative to what they should have been, in my opinion. If Incognito wants more than he's being offered, I'd find it hard to pony up anything close to what I'd pay for even a slightly-above-average interior OL.
I thought it was a terrible idea to get rid of all 3 starting interior OL last year, but, frankly, I think it's a great idea this year. I will probably throw up on the living room rug if I see McQuistan, Berger or Murtha starting for us next year. Jerry needs to improve, but I thought I saw glimmers of hope for him. Long is obviously a stud and Carey is who he is - average to above average and durable. I'd love to see two quality pickups at C & G (draft and/or whatever FA looks like) and a healthy Garner.
I'd keep Berger (versatile, albeit not very durable, backup) and Jerry. If Incognito leaves, so-be-it. McQuistan is a big fat nothing, and Murtha is a human turnstile. Jerry needs another year before we declare him a bust.
