Our opponents have to study the wildcat too, is the point.
But I agree it should be really scaled back. I mean, keep it in the playbook (after all, the hook-and-lateral is still in the playbook isn't it?) but there CERTAINLY is no need to go to it every game. When the situation is right, when film study warrants it, but only rarely should we use wildcat plays in the future.
I'd use the wildcat about as often as I'd use the double-reverse, flea-flicker, and any other gimmick play. If it happens to work well, maybe try it a 2nd time, but don't live and die by it!
