If you want to draft a QB, then I wouldnt mind if we took a mid round selection from the TCU school, I forgot his name, but I would be ok with that guy, from what TCU has accomplished he should be a solid player in the NFL.
YEAH NEWTON WHOOOOOO. Can you say Jamarcus Russell lol..... All the hype, and none the performance.
Sure lets draft Newton, at least it will make for VERY interesting discussions in the future, and eventualy lead to us having this topic yet again, but 3 years instead of 15 years.
Newton won the Hiesman trophy so that means...mostly stay away from him.
In the history of the award there have only been a handful of quality players to win it.
Roger Staubach...won the superbowl.
Jim Plunkett...won the superbowl.
Here are the quartebacks who won it for the last twenty-six years.
1984 Doug Flutie...enough said.
1986 Vinny Testaverde...good but not great, long career however.
1989 Andre Ware...enough said.
1990 Ty Detmer...enough said.
1992 Gino Torretta...enough said.
1993 Charlie Ward...enough said.
1996 Danny Wuerffel...enough said.
2000 Chris Weinke...enough said.
2001 Eric Crouch...enough said.
2002 Carson Palmer...decent, but not great.
2003 Jason White...enough said.
2004 Matt Leinart...enough said.
2006 Troy Smith...enough said.
2007 Tim Tebow...jury is out.
2008 Sam Bradford...looks promising so far.
I hope he does well but the odds are stacked against him.

I am not saying he is a cant miss prospect. But the guy can throw, run, and has all the intangibles you are looking for. Plus, he is a smart guy from all reports.

Newton looked impressive in the few plays he got in Florida. Then he went and won a JuCO, National Championship after that. Then he went and dominated at Auburn and won the Heisman. The guy is impressive and a winner for sure... His father played for the Cowboys and his brother plays for the Jaguars.... SO that mean he has some pedigree and understanding of what it takes to mentally make it in the NFL. I am not saying he is cant miss either, but he is hardly what you are making him out to be IMO.
mia1 I was trying to make you see he is a different player than Russell. Who was a look-how-far I can throw it, 'big arm' player at LSU.
NEWTON has alot of qualities I noticed in young Josh Freeman with room to grow.
I don't think Mia1 cares that he is black. Don't forget how much he loved Pat White.
I will reserve judgement on Newton until I see him in the last game. However, I already don't like what I hear about him off the field. I am also interested in seeing Mallet tomorrow. Outside of some highlights, I have seen him play.
Newton jesus I took a stab with Pat White A run first QB who put up impressive stats throwing it in college too, and how did that turn out?
Just sayin, I DON'T WANT ANOTHER UTILITY QB, I would much rather perfere a Pockett QB, I mean we already have Thigpen, which I would think at this stage in their career's is years ahead of what Newton would be comming in, so why another god damn project? Just to get canned, because we will be competing with the like's of the Jets, and Pats who will be in the playoff hunt for the next decade?
