Before I make my point, I want an answer to the question so I can be sure of my premise.

On the last 48 yarder missed by Carpenter, the ball was shanked to the right.

In your opinion, how many yards before the goalpost did the kick began to go off to the right. In other words, did the ball fade right before approaching the uprights or was the kick outside of the two goal posts EVEN BEFORE IT PENETRATED THE END ZONE LINE?

I'm trying to find out by how many yards we missed that field goal.

I presume the difference is that the play calling to set up that FG was pathetic and if you could have gotten him a few yards closer maybe he makes it.

On the other hand, it was bad all the way.

It was very close but it looked wide from the start.

He just choked.

Undoubtedly, he had a bad day. It happens to kickers. I think the pressure of being the guy that had to win the game got to him. We just can't be expecting to win by FGs each and every game.

Carpenter sucked hard and clearly deserves a great deal of blame.

That said, awful play-calling, awful execution, and conservative coaching philosophy are all to blame, too.

"You lay the game to win" not calling wildcats and trying for a tie, especially with your home record as it is.

JoeMama got what I was getting at.

It seemed to me if he was a little closer, say 5 yards, maybe with the same kick he makes the field goal.

It was 3rd and 9 and we went for the first down pass.

Again, I may be second guessing the OC but it seems to be that the safe money is overtime.

So I dump off the pass, call a screen or something that is sure to get positive yard and not rely on a 48 yard field goal on a windy day.

Sorry Dr. Jykell, when a tie gives you the chance to keep playing for the playoffs, I say you play for the tie rather than risk it all and lose.

Now, NEXT WEEK,your philosophy is appropriate. We ain't going anywhere anyway so play to win and not conservatively.

You can't win in the NFL relying of field goals, with that said...LET the COWHER REGIME start In January.
