This WAS like preseason, if the other team was still playing their starters in the 4th quarter. I feel a big sorry for Thigpen. He gets a chance to start and has to do it behind our 2nd-string center...who quickly gets hurt...so then he's behind the 3rd-string center. I agree Thigpen is not starter material, but I still like him as a backup. But stick ANYONE behind that O-Line with Henning's play calling and you'll get crap. Plain and simple.
Henne's probably the better QB but you can't completely blame Thigpen for that disgrace last night.
- Marshall's dropped balls and poor sportsmanship
- o-line injuries/ineptitude
- Henning throwing Thigpen to the wolves by not running the ball
- Defense allowing wayyy too many 3rd down conversions
The list goes on...but by the end of the third quarter while we're surprisingly still in the game, Thigpen looked scared to death everytime he dropped back to pass.
Tough to watch. I hope Henne and/or the O-line gets healthy real quick or we may be watching Ramsey taking snaps and have to listen to the stupid commentators mention yet another starting QB since Danny.
There will be no miracles that solve our injury issues this year. Long will be hobbled all year. Berger isn't that good when he's 100%. Proctor was a throw-in, and Incognito isn't even qualified to play Center in the NFL. This means, unless we make a major change to our offensive philosophy, all of us are going to witness the complete destruction of this team...as we did under Cam and Wanny. Marshall's outbursts of frustration will only get worse. Ronnie and Ricky will continue to look like senior citizens.
So, unless we fire Henning NOW we're doomed!! We need to see what Donald Lee would do with the offense. The only chance we had is to move to a spread, or even west-coast, offense with an occasional Wildcat. Our pass plays must be quick. No more 3-step drops. No more passes over 10 yards. Get the ball out of these as fast as possible and let WRs get yards with their feet.

Due to injury, I think we need a completely different offensive philosophy, and I'm not sure Henning is willing to go there. I could see us going to a spread or west-coast offense with wildcat plays thrown in (where Thigpen stays at one of the RB positions). A change in coach should also give us a quick emotional boost (it typically happens) which may alleviate, at least for a little while, Marshall's frustrations. Basically, Henning becomes a scapegoat (which isn't completely undeserved), and the team moves on.
