it's the right move. wallace and moore have shown much more. some bad high picks by Parcells/Ireland: White (2d) Turner (3) Murphy (4), guys who are/will be cut after less than 2 years

Well Im not so fast to pass out credit for them making a bad 3rd round draft pick and cutting him a year later. This is why this franchise has yet to make the next step. Too many high round wasted draft picks. Mel Kiper was dead on about Turner. The minute he was drafted he said Turner wasn't any good and didn't have the body to play WR on the NFL level. Kiper was 100% right.
I'm not giving them contract extensions Mike, just pointing out that they're not afraid to admit mistakes. As for Kiper, it's easy to point out the few times he's right, i'm sure he's missed a bunch too, if he was that good some owner would throw a boat load of $$$$$$ at him and he would of won about 10 Super Bowl rings by now.

He as been offered jobs. He turned down the Baltimore Colts job back in early 80's. He has been offered other jobs as well. Why stress out working for an NFL team and take a pay cut when you can make big bucks at ESPN for doing little and if your wrong its no big deal?!?!!!
Half empty or half full? You can't keep everyone. If you do such a good job picking up undrafted free agents then something in your draft has to give. I am hoping that Moore and Wallace are just steals that made a Turner expendable.
At least we increased our speed at WR. Starting to like the way they are shaping up....I liked Cam and was rooting for Turner but he just didn't do enough. These guys have more upside and could turn out to be a Mile Austin type in a few years...hope hope
Moore will definitely be the 4th WR. I can see him spelling Bess in the Slot. Wallace will play the same role Turner played last year. On the 53, likely on the bench unless we get an injury.

Yea but then there are great additions like Moore and Bess who weren't even drafted.
The draft is a crapshoot for everyone. The mark of a good organization is one that just doesn't care about people saying "you have some busted picks" and will cut higher picks that aren't panning out in favor of lower pick or undrafted FAs that play better.

They haven't missed that much.
Out of 3 years they have had 11 1st to 3rd round picks. Only 2 of those have been cut. A third (Merling) is on the reserve list, but not for lack of talent. Besides Misi and Lankford, all the others are starting. And both Misi and Lankford are key contributors to the defense.
Batting 80% of 1st-3rd round picks is not bad at all - way above the league average.
I like that this team is willing to cut its losses and give chances to players that are looked over on draft day or late rounds. They have a knack for findings diamonds in the rough, which is a huge key to building a championship team.

At the point when he said this, Julius Pruitt had not been cut. It was this post that made me start the Pruitt thread. Pruitt was cut soon afterwards though.

"Can't miss on high draft picks in rounds 2 and 3 like Miami has."
Says who? As long as you can fill the positions with talented and disciplined players, who cares where in the draft they came from?
I guess if you're sensitive, then blowing a high draft pick could be embarrassing. The loss of money for cutting a drafted player (outside of the the first round) isn't something that really hurts an organization that has such a huge profit margin.
It would be nice if we could hit every draft pick out of the park, but that's just not realistic...damn the FO for being humans who make mistakes!!

The owner who is writing big pay checks for guys who aren't here year after year will be upset!! That's his money being wasted!
Nobody is saying hit on every draft pick. But hit on the 2nd and 3rd rounders, that isn't asking a lot!

Agreed. However, winning is most important so keep the best players no matter where you get them. If you cut a 2nd round pick, but find a gem in free-agency then payroll essentially balances out. Afterall the free-agent gem is playing for peanuts early on.
Do you see the size of the contracts for 2nd and 3rd rounders? It really isn't as much money as you're making it out to be. Especially for somebody as loaded as an NFL owner. It's slightly ironic that you're looking out for this guys wallet while he is looking to wring yours dry.
And I still don't see your logic. "Hit on the 2nd and 3rd rounders, that isn't asking a lot!" Obviously it is, or every 2nd or 3rd rounder would be in the HoF, right? The draft is a crapshoot. You KNOW that, so why pretend that it's not?
Back to my original point: I don't care if you get a starting player form the 1st, 5th, 7th round. I don't care if he's a RFA, UFA, undrafted free agent, or somebody who came up from the practice squad. Fill the positions that need to be filled with the best players, even if that means cutting a drafted player.
