I agree out of all the reporters that cover the Miami Dolphins, I put the least amount of faith in what Armando says. Sometimes he has some good information but, he has to print far to many coreections or retractions for careless or bad information for my taste. I forget something pretty major he printed last year was flat out wrong and embarrassed him, I forget the details of the story, though. I do read Armando, but he is defintely last in line and taken with a grain of salt.

One of the guys on Sirius NFL radio used to cover the Dolphins (cant remember his name) and I heard the other day now he writes for some Jets news letter. Like Mike said, I think it's more common then you'd think

Alex Marvez works for SIRIUS NFL RADIO, used to cover the Fins but now works for Fox Sports as a national NFL reporter

Joe Schad an ESPN College Football reporter, used to write for the Palm Beach Post covering the Dolphins as a beat reporter and he also wrote for my website back in the day is a DIE HARD JETS FAN!! Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas once held him upside down in the lockeroom when they caught wind of it and had some fun with him over it!! Funy stuff.

Armando is the idiot who wrote an article as to :

Why Brandon Marshall will never be a dolphin....

2 or 3 days later he was in fact traded to the fish.

The guy doesn't have a clue!

Not that I like Armando, but really - who cares? The only Phins reporters worth a damn are the great Jim Mandich and a few from the Sentinel. We have all known this for years.

Armando hate is nothing new.

Marvez is the guy I was thinking of, thanks. That's not the exact version of the story I'd read, so thanks for your take on it (not that it really matters, as you said).

>>....It's really common place. ..

yah Howard David who was in Miami for a few years was a Jets fan. He was a solid, professional play-by-play guy in the booth and it did not affect his performance there, but I'm sure it made a difference in the hallways of WQAM at the time...if not over the talk-show side of the business.

Howard David wasn't a Jets fan. He worked for the Jets for many years. He was accused of being a Jets fan though. Howard David was a national play by play man who worked Monday Night Football, the Kenctucky Derby, Westwood One basketball and football...did everything and anything under the sun. One of his gigs was Jets football. So to the people who didn't know about him, he was just labeled as a JETS FAN.

Alex Marvez is a cool cat. I have meet him a few times and he actually did a story on me for the Sun-Sentinel back in 2003. He's a good dude.

Howard David was the best most-professional play by play guy we've had since rick weaver. I can't believe they let him go after a year. Cefalo is purely amature hour and Rose sucks too. Bring back David!

I completely agree. If Howard David was a Jests fan, he kept it well under wraps. He was a professional.

Reason Howard David became the Fins play by play guy is he retired. Moved to Florida. Lived about 15 min away from WQAM. So he took the Fins play by play job and a daily talk show on WQAM. Guy worked about 3 hours a day. Only had to make 8-10 travel trips a year (Fins road games) and he made a little money in his retirement days.

Today David is on every Sunday morning on SIRIUS NFL RADIO "Press Pass". With those gigs they broadcast out of their homes for the most part with an ISDN line or whatever the correct term is. That guy was great!

I just did some searching and it was Armando with Cole after all, back in 2004. I'll spare further details, I was only curious in the first place.

I do still agree that it's fine if sports writers are not fans of the local team (sometimes, even better, for balance).

In fact of the current NFL writers based S. Fl. Armando is actually my favorite.

I think it is fine to not be a fan of the team you cover or write about, but I defintely do not think it is fine to be a fan of the team you covers rival. I am not saying Armando is a fan of our rival just making a point that a line should be drawn somewhere. I mean there is a difference in reporting based on who you like or supports, just watch the cable news channels to figure that one out. Reporting is in the eye of the beholder or writer in this case!

You can't hire or fire someone for a reporter job at a major newspaper based on what their favorite team is.

Like I said, when Joe Schad was writing for me back in the day and he was covering the Fins for the PALM BEACH POST....he was a die-hard Jets Fan. Zach and JT found out and had some light-hearted fun with him. Held him upside down in the lockeroom. Stuffed him in a garbage can. Everyone laughed and it was no big deal.

He practices extremely poor journalistic standards, he should be fired.

Did you tell your readers that the writer they were reading about the Phins was a diehard fan of their greatest rivals. I think that is foolish, I would never give 2 craps about what a Jets fan wants to write about the Dolphins. That is probably the most BS thing I have ever heard. It is a big deal IMO. You need to always understand the writers POV before you take what they say as truth. If I was a Jets fan I sure as hell wouldnt put faith in the stories a diehard Miami Fan was feeding about the Jets. Mike I have determined that what you think about people being Jets fans and Miami fans is completely dillusional. You have a special place in your heart for the Jets, so you look at all of this a bit different then most diehard Phins fans. Jets, their fans and reporters can go pound sand or milk a moose, but pretending to be behind the team you are reporting for, when deep down you are against them, is just plain old BS, and no double talk is going to convince me otherwise. Are there any other reporters who currently cover the phins that are really Jets fan, please tell me so I can never read them again and disregard any information they might have spewed in the past? That is like a guy who loves Pepsi working for Coke sales and advertising, or a Vegetarian or Vegan selling steak or and orthodox Jew selling pork for a living, doesnt make no damn sense,ie Fake! Joe Schad is a moron!, no different then 90% of those who idolize the Jets. What type of person would take a job covering a team he despised, either one with other motives or desperate, either way I dont want to read the guy, and think it is something that should not be withheld from the readers, otherwise you are just punking your readers. Any editor that would hire a guy like that an not disclose it to his or hers readers is foolish and untrust worthy.
