What we have here is a proven RB with power, speed, and already the caluis of the NFL. You get a rookie in here and he would have to go through at least 2 years of growing pains before he is up to NFL speed.

Granted Brown has become the RB that cannot stay healthy, but he is proven and he does not bring off field issues to work for the most part. If we can keep Williams for another year (he was a savior when Brown went down this year) we are set at RB and need to look at other positions a lot harder that are lacking support.

D Back- is a position that comes to mind.....HELLO---- with Welker, Holmes, Moss, ect....We are going to get killed if we cannot defend against the pass. This has been our position challenge as of late.

I see a developing QB- decent OL, now a great WR, we need help on D.

If anything trade Williams and pick up Marion Barber.

All really good points Phinsfan2. Im just worried we get a DB that doesnt stand up to the hype like years past.

I think this is where I disagree with you. It is not the norm for a RB to come in and Kill it (unless your Adrian Peterson). Maybe I can think of 2-3 that were able to come in and do so per year. Im not saying you cant go back in time and grab a nice list of RB that have done so, but again thats a crap shoot and a gamble on a year by year basis. High risk (at the cost) low reward.....

All Im saying is if we have Ricky for 1 more year there is no future and his time is up. After his performance last year we should be able to get something decent for him and keep the younger back Ronnie Brown and try to get Barber or some other power back to compliment our back field.

Thanks for the discussion.....

Ronnie is damaged goods. He's not durable enough to play a whole season. He's too expensive to keep if we have to platoon him to keep him healthy.

I don't think it's as simple as yes or no. If we can get a high second rounder for Brown then yes trade him. Less than a mid 2nd rounder....no.

As much as I love to watch Ronnie run and plow over defenders, it may be time to cut ties with him.

He has NEVER played 16 games in the 5 years he has been in the NFL. He is a bruising back that plays physical. Those guys don't have long careers in the NFL anyway and he is already going into his 6th year.

LT wore down in his 8th year and he was not a bruiser but more of a speed back.

Ronnie may only have two years left before his role is reduced to a backup. If we can get a high second for an injured RB then we have to do it.

The Wildcat is history now that Henne is in his second year as a starter and we have Brandon Marshall.

If Ronnie was able to stay healthy he would have been talked about as an all time great and probably led the league in rushing several times.

Same goes for Ricky if he had his head on straight.

Trading him allows us the opportunity to land a starter on defense where we really need it.

I loves Ronnie and his great smile and powerful physical game -- he's just had bad football karma with all the injuries -- never getting to his full potential... Is that the story of his career?

Maybe. Maybe not. But he's a great kid and a VERY POSITIVE team asset IMO. It's really hard to cut those kind of guys loose.
