The Dolphins signed Jason Ferguson. 8 week suspension will take place. He is banned from the facility once the regular season starts. He can participate in pre-season games and training camp

No word on the contract. How much he as paid and for how long.

also signing him so quick after the announced suspension ......MAYBE, just MAYBE the Fins know something about this failed test. maybe they feel they can get the suspension reduced somehow through an appeal.

Just brainstorming....

Considering it's his second positive test, I can't imagine the league is going to offer him any leniency. More likely, we signed him now because his value will never be lower.

Likely he was using HGH or something to speed his quad recovery and build up a little extra strength.

Good news? If we can get through 8 games with a decent record we will have a healthier stronger Ferguson for a play-off run. 8 weeks off is 8 weeks of more recovery and strengthening. Ease him in to action...and then make him part of the rotation down the stretch.

The NFL isn't testing for HGH yet. The league wants to, but the NFLPA is against it.

I don't know ...signing Ferguson is a 1 year fix.

We can draft a rookie, have Fergy work with him during camp, the Rook and Soliai are in the rotation, and then in week 9 Ferguson continues his mentoring, and can will likely be needed.

Parcells history does suggest DE/OLB over NT in he 1st round. But you also have to look at caliber of talent available. It will be interesting to see who's on the board when we make our choice.

One thing is for sure...Barcells disguises his intentions very well.

Yes, but, whatever he took was likely for recovering rather than recreational. Still got caught...but at his age...and his position...I understand why he would risk it. Its either use something and play another year or 2 for a few Million...or don't use it and retire.

Ferguson tested positive for marijuana at the scouting combine in 1997.

He also tested positive for a banned substance called Nandrolone, an anabolic steroid in 99.

If he appeals it, he could still play in the beginning of the season and maybe even get the suspension reduced.

He could have been taking diuretics to lose weight since he can't really work out that hard with a thigh injury. I don't know what effect the outcome of the Williams' case will have on this either.

Some legal experts say if the Williams' suit succeeds it could make it harder for the leagues to enforce their drug policies.

Do they allow reduced punishments on PED suspensions? I don't think they do. I think they are hard and fast rules. It's different than Commissioner discretion suspensions.

ferguson out 8 games , Pennington can't throw, out 6?

Can't see ther logic here unless it is hoping we will be in contention and they will be healed, or

We can't find anyone else!

Pennington wont start, hes really only here because hes intelligent and can help the progress of henne, and worst case scenario henne gets hurt, yeah then he will play hes been here 2 years he knows how to run things

We don't even know if Pennington will be on PUP yet.

Another option is to start the season with a hybrid defense. Nolan has run it before and we have as well.

Think of the 4-3 with these players...

LDE Phillip Merling
LDT Kendall Langford
RDT Randy Starks
RDE Cameron Wake/Jason Taylor

SLB Channing Crowder
MLB Karlos Dansby
WLB Reggie Torbor/Cam Wake

Talk about getting your best players on the field at the same time.

i like those players at DT/NT and OLB/DE but i really dont think Dez is going to miami. if parcells wants a top receiver he will just trade for b marshall who will have a more immediate impact and probably be better in the long run.

There is no Cap this year. If they are unable to play they go on a PUP/ or suspended list and do not count as a roster spot.

If Chad is the #3 is isn't active and doesn't count as a roster spot.

So it comes down to money.

So is Ross willing to pay a few Million to have the option of using these guys down the stretch, or if a key player gets injured? The team makes money. He has likely given Parcells a budget...and Parcells thinks its worthwhile.

Smart teams don't overpay stars, and smart teams have depth.

Its a smart move.

His job last year was to gameplan for the next weeks opponent. Miami would be facing Houston in an upcoming game. That week Pennington was preparing for Pitt the team they were playing in 14 days.

That helped Henne out a ton. Penny was one week ahead all year long and aided Henne along all season. That's why you pay to keep Pennington around whether he plays or not
