rookie recievers generally wont help much they need at least a year to get used to the speed of the game and the offense and routes, getting accustomed to the Qb and all that, they put up there best numbers seasons 2 and beyond.

Not trying to argue, but why is it that we expect that to be tru when crabtree and harvin had impact last year.

- Crabtree never even got on the field until late in the season, and without going to camp.

- I think we're all conditioned due to the letdown Ginn has been from prior expectations, add in the hartline turner (all be it much later round picks) ... and we've seen squat.

- IMHO a first round wr ought to deliver early and often ... yes they'll be even better in year 3, but a real talent ought to make a difference year one.

It's been true for a long time that it often takes WR several years to develop at the NFL level. Its always been a position where guys can get by in college on pure athletic ability. In the NFL, they need to learn to run different routes, they need to be able to deal with press coverage on every play, and they need to be able to read defenses to execute option routes correctly. Last year was probably the best year for rookie wideouts in a long time, with guys like Nicks, Maclin, Crabtree, and Harvin. But, look at their situations. Nicks had Steve Smith and Mario Manningham as the starters, and he was the #3 guy. Maclin had Jackson and Avant as the two main guys and he was the #3 guy. Harvin had Rice and Berrian, and he was the #3 guy. Now, Crabtree basically become their main guy among WR, but he did have Vernon Davis as their overall main focus in the passing game. And in 11 games, Crabtree scored just 2 TD and did not have a 100 yard game.

Say, we draft a rookie. And he's a physical player from a school with a pro style offense. He may be able to make an impact, maybe a 50 catch season. But, who is going to take the pressure off him, like Rice, and Smith, and Berrian, and Avant did for rookies last year? We don't have anyone.
