I wouldn't be shocked if Miami can't find a FS in free agency and doesn't want to draft one at pick #12.....that they go out and re-sign Gabril Wilson for fifty cents on the dollar and bring him back.

Just throwing it out there, don't be shocked.

I think this is a possibility. They have to decide if Sean Jones is an upgrade over Wilson, and after the last 2 years, that's debatable. Or they can see if OJ Atogwe and the Rams are really willing to part ways, and if Atogwe's shoulder is sound. If neither of those guys are what they want, and they aren't willing to give up a first rounder for Bethea, then I do think Wilson is a possibility.

Has anyone researched Parcells and when/if he drafts safeties? He may not be interested in having a young guy be the guy calling the shots in the secondary.

safties are almost never drafted high. Not a lot are drafted in round 1

Someone on an ealier post talked about our safties looking better if we upgrade our LBs. This really makes the most sense. With a real good DL and real good inside linebackers everything looks better.
That just might be the way things work out.

Offense? OL depth, RB depth. Can get in the draft. WR???confused smiley

A new defensive coordinator doesn't hurt. Look what Nolan did with our castoffs (Goodman, Hill).

I've said it before...one position affects another.
When we had Madison & Surtain locking down the two top targets our DE's and LB's wracked up the coverage sacks and Brock Marion looked a HOFer.

When we had Timbo & Gardner with zach going sideline to sideline our OLB's had an easy job plugging holes and letting Zach do his thing.

If we have a playmaker at DT and OLB and we have solid guys in the middle then our secondary has an easier job. With two athletic young corners we should see an improvement there. Safety is now an easier job.

So..that said ...I think they are willing to roll with Clemons if they had to. That's why they released Wilson prior to signing a replacement.

Also...Nolan is a different 3-4 guy with different schemes. He very well could take Jason Allen and make a starting safety out of him.

Wilson is gone. His problems were not caused by lack of pressure or broken coverage by the rooks. He flat out made read things wrong and was in the wrong place too many times.

Would I be shocked? No. Would I be extremely disappointed and teeter on the verge of depression at the prospect of watching bombs go over the top every game? Yes.

Goodman made bigger plays than Will Allen when he was here and regressed under Nolan in Denver. I wouldn't exactly consider him a castoff.

Hill did not have a good year under Nolan either.

You can't just ignore the safety spot and rely on pressure from the front 7. Guys like Manning (who don't get sacked) will destroy you.

We were inconsistent last year and now have lost our two best pass rushers. Does anyone really think we will be better with Wake and a rookie?

I think Wake will improve this year and may take on a full time role eventually but he may just end up being a specialist.

No way did they see enough out of Clemons in 89 snaps to want to rely on him as a starter so soon. He did not play that well. He needs time to develop and learn. He has the physical tools but not the instincts and knowledge. FS is too important. Culver showed better coverage ability.

How many coaches does it take to make a player out of Jason Allen????...CB...FS....CB....he is a special teams player. He had 79 snaps on defense last year. Nolan is a coach not a miracle worker.

Are you denying the Denver's defense last year was better than ours? They accomplished this with 2 players we deemed not good enough for us.

I would say that their offers to Rolle and Clark make it apparent they don't think Clemons can handle the job now, and isn't a long term answer either.

Slightly possible.......highly unlikely. This would be like egg on their face to eat all that money then re-sign him with a new signing
bonus, and it would also reek of desperation. Don't see it happening by the tri-fecta and on Wilson's side i'm sure he will be signed by someone before we got that desperate.

No I am not saying that at all but just because the players they deemed expendable were not signed...does not mean they were worse than the players we resigned or brought in.

Hill is better than Wilson.

Goodman played better in 08 than any of our CB's.

Matt Roth won a starting WOLB job and did quite well as a pass rusher....better than Joey Porter.

Vonnie Holliday was one of the top ranked 3-4 RDE's right up with Randy Starks. (The only 3-4 DE that played better than those 2 was Justin Smith)

There was no way we could have kept all of our free agents from last year but Goodman wouldn't have been my first choice to be let go...especially when they signed Eric Green to replace him (even though Denver over paid for Andre)....and Joey Thomas. Neither made the team.

If they are smart they are looking to put him at SS.
