Could happen for the sake of the youth movement but if he regains his form, it would be hard to ignore the success rate of Allen. 56% compared to 40% for Davis.

Davis is going to get better but it sure makes for a great problem to have. A weakness may become a strength this year if they can get some help over the top from Eric Berry or Earl Thomas.

Why not try one of them at FS? Might as well have your 3 best cover guys on the field at the same time.

The FO may have higher hopes for Vontae than at FS. Personally, I think he could be an explosive SS, but obviously his coverage skills (his recovery speed for example) would go to waste at that position.

Why only Davis? I say give each of them a shot at FS and see which one works best there. We could just call it a new defensive alignment, a secondary with 3 CBs and one SS. 2 CBs play man-on-man and one plays zone. Then you still call each of them a CB.

The nickel is used anywhere from 50 to 65 percent of the time anyway. One of the young corners will eventually be starting @ CB (if they don't from the beginning of the season). I think they will be better off staying at the CB spot and gaining the experience from it.

Allen, Davis and Smith in the nickel defense look pretty good. We just need a young, TRUE FS to step into that position and lock it up for years to come. It won't be long and we will be needing a new SS as well. Bell is not going to get any better. He turns 32 in a couple weeks.

If we permanently moved one of those 3 guys to a Safety position then that means we will once again have to address the CB position again. I say just let the best 2 start and the 3rd be the nickel guy while adressing the Safety spots through the draft.

I would be totally stunned to get Berry.

I thought we were trying to re-sign Nate Jones. He's an excellent nickle CB.

But, do you think he is a better nickel than Davis or Allen?

I just think Allen, Davis, or Smith would all be better at FS than Gibril Wilson. Your starting FS plays more than your nickel CB. If we have 3 starting-caliber CBs and a mediocre FS, I say bench the FS and try the CBs at that position.

But it seems those 3 are el natural at CB...I'm not so sure about a Safety position.

How different is it playing a zone D at CB or playing FS? Seems the skills are similar between the 2.
